Patch 0.13.0 : Foundations for the Future

major update

Afallon · published · build 21719307

Hello everyone,

I want to start by being transparent about the development process lately. I’ve been deep in the trenches performing a massive code rework of many of the game’s core systems. It’s been a long road, but I’m finally starting to see the "big picture" of where Afallon is headed.

The most consistent feedback I’ve received is that you enjoy the "Single-Player World of Warcraft" feel and want to see the game lean further into that direction. I’ve taken that to heart, that is exactly what I'm doing.

I want to apologize for the delay of this patch and for the fact that there isn't as much new "content" (quests/zones) as I had hoped. The structural reworks took considerably more time than anticipated, but I truly believe this is a vital foundation update. It provides the stability we need to build and release content much faster moving forward.

I also know that the Talent Trees are in need of a major overhaul. While the system is currently a work in progress, you can see the direction I am taking them by looking at the Assassin’s "Blade Mastery" tree. There, you'll see how talents actually modify your base abilities rather than just giving flat stat boosts. The next update will feature a full talent tree overhaul for all classes, alongside more world content and new quests.

One of the biggest shifts you'll see starting today is the groundwork for a Group Mechanic. You can now see group members displayed on the side of your screen, similar to classic MMO UIs. This is very early in development, but it’s a sign of things to come.

Thank you all so much for your incredible support and patience while I get these core systems right.

New Content & Classes

  • New Class: Assassin – Master the shadows with a new Stealth mechanic and devastating single-target burst damage.

  • Expanded Character Options – Female Humans and Female Dwarves are now available for character creation.

  • Group Mechanic (Early Alpha) – New UI elements to track your group members.

  • Unstuck Button – Added a "Help" option that kills your character and respawns you at the nearest graveyard if you get stuck in geometry.

Combat

  • Targeting Improvements: * Targetable NPCs now change your cursor icon on hover.

    • A Yellow Selection Circle now appears beneath your current target for better visual clarity.

    • Target portraits now display alongside the nameplate.

    • Specific portrait frames for Boss and Elite enemies to help identify threats.

    • Fixed several bugs related to "Click to Target."

    • Players will no longer automatically swap targets when dealing damage if they already have a target locked.

User Interface (UI) & HUD

  • Full UI Overhaul – A fresh look for all menus and windows.

  • Customizable HUD – You can now move and resize HUD elements to your liking. Your layout will be saved automatically.

  • Enhanced Tooltips: * Armor tooltips now show stat changes including socketed gems and enchantments.

    • Weapon tooltips now accurately display stat comparisons against your equipped gear.

  • Quality of Life: * Equipped items can now be dragged directly into the Socketing and Enchanting windows without needing to unequip them first.

    • Pressing your interact key (default E) while a loot window is open will now "Loot All."

    • NPC Faction names are now displayed under their names.

Camera & Controls

  • Movement Improvements: * Pressing Left + Right Mouse Buttons simultaneously will now move your character forward.

    • Added an option to toggle between Strafing or Turning with the A and D keys.

    • Dodge Rolling now moves the character in the direction they are facing, rather than following the camera.

  • Camera Polishing:

    • The camera no longer "snaps" when using abilities or resets when Dodge Rolling.

    • Added Camera Sensitivity and Invert options in the settings menu.

  • Character Preview: You can now click and drag to rotate your character model in the Main Menu, Character Creation, and Continue screens.

NPC & Companion AI

  • Smarter Companions: NPC allies (like Lirael) will now interact with the world. They will help you harvest nodes like plants and ore veins, or pick up quest items like Mirethorn Berries and Swamp Roots.

  • Dynamic Follow Speed: Pets and companions now use variable movement speeds. They walk normally when close but speed up to catch up if you get too far away.

  • Tactical Enemy AI:

    • Line of Sight (LoS): NPCs can no longer see through solid objects. Use walls and rocks to hide or pull enemies.

    • Kiting: Ranged NPCs will now actively try to maintain distance, backing away from you to get shots off.

Balance Changes

  • Loot Tuning: The Adventurer’s Supply Pack and Challenge Stone rewards have been nerfed. They now have a higher probability of dropping gold and crafting materials rather than guaranteed gear.
