2.0.5 Update

BlastFX · published · build 24574035

BlastFX 2.0.5 is now live!

This update brings MacOS support, higher resolution exports (4096 x 4096), more video export formats (AVI, MP4 & WebP) and the video export side of things is now handled by FFmpeg, take a look at the docs to see how to set that up

There's also a new colour mode for particles so that they can sample their starting colour from a random point on the gradient, or the start colour of each particle spawned can gradually change over the life of the emitter. Gradients can also be changed to stepped mode, allowing more discrete colour choices.

Added:

  • Ability to toggle locked/visibility status on multiple emitters by clicking and dragging down over multiple lock/eye icons
  • Export range on the timeline is easier to manipulate without overlapping the playback head
  • Looping now happens at the export range time marker rather than the full emitter lifespan
  • Re-center emitter/layer under View > Re-center item (may move this to edit menu later...)
  • Export range value can be entered manually by clicking on the value
  • Export area size can be entered manually by clicking on the yellow width/height values in the top-left corner of the output area
  • Render layer transforms so layers can move, scale, and rotate the emitters they contain
  • Layer transform gizmos in the preview (green transform box)
  • Animated export preview to export dialogs so effects can be checked before exporting
  • Frames per second field to export dialogs, linked to the frame count and export range duration
  • MP4, WebM, and AVI video export via FFmpeg
  • Smooth/stepped gradient interpolation modes
  • Start Colour controls for emitter base colour, with Gradient and Random modes
  • Polar Coordinates effect

Changed:

  • Maximum export size has been increased to 4096 x 4096, just set the scale in the export dialog
  • Sprite sheet export now chooses a near-square layout automatically from the frame count
