From Jimo Theater: Three Kingdoms to Jimo Three Kingdoms

The original goal of Jimo Theater: Three Kingdoms (Single Player Edition) was to create a game that was only focused on a “single-player mystery drama” experience.

Players could explore, investigate, talk with characters, and experience a story from the Three Kingdoms era within a few hours. Because of this, our original design did not focus heavily on building a complex RPG framework around character progression, combat systems, and long-term growth.

After launch, however, we gradually realized that many players entered the game with expectations of a Three Kingdoms RPG.

Players wanted:

  • More distinctive character systems

  • More strategic combat

  • Deeper progression and customization

This difference between expectations and the original design direction, combined with the fact that the launch version still had many areas requiring improvement, resulted in the initial reception not reaching our expectations.

After receiving player feedback, we seriously considered whether we should completely rebuild the game from the ground up.

But if we simply remade it into a traditional RPG, how could we preserve the unique immersive storytelling experience that made the original special?

Eventually, we realized this was not a choice we had to make.

Instead of replacing the original experience, we decided to preserve its lightweight narrative structure while introducing a JRPG system that better suited the game:

  • Character identities

  • Strategic combat

  • Growth systems

  • More meaningful progression

However, this was not something that could be achieved through a simple update.

It required an entirely new layer of design.

After three months, dozens of updates, and continuous reconstruction, the combat, progression, exploration, interaction, and UI systems of Jimo Theater: Three Kingdoms (Single Player Edition) have all received a complete overhaul.

The game also received a shorter and more memorable name: Jimo Three Kingdoms.

Ultimately, we achieved a gameplay experience that supports different types of players.

Players can choose between a more story-focused exploration and deduction experience, or a more complete JRPG-style adventure.

The Enhanced Edition is the result of this journey.

We hope this new version can finally meet the expectations players have for a Three Kingdoms story.

New Features in the Enhanced Edition

A More Complete JRPG Progression Experience

Added unique protagonist abilities, four equipment slots, five basic skills, and five combo skills.

Players can now collect and equip hundreds of different items and equipment pieces, creating more meaningful character builds and progression choices.

Rebuilt Turn-Based Combat System

Adjust your skill order freely, create powerful combos, and continuously break enemy shields.

Experience a more strategic and satisfying combat system.

New Exploration & Guidance Systems

Added quest tracking, real-time map markers, and target highlighting.

Exploration is now smoother while still preserving the freedom to discover the world.

Completely Upgraded UI & Interaction

Rebuilt interface layouts, visual feedback, dialogue speedup, and interaction systems.

The overall visual style has also been upgraded into a new ink-inspired Chinese aesthetic.

English Localization in Progress

The English localization of the Enhanced Edition has officially started.

We are currently working on:

  • Text translation

  • Localization review

  • In-game adaptation

Because this update introduces and rewrites a large amount of:

  • Story content

  • System explanations

  • Interface text

the English version requires additional time for polishing.

Our goal is not only to accurately translate the original text, but also to ensure English-speaking players can naturally understand the story, combat, and progression systems.

The English version will be released as a free update after completion.

The release date will be announced in a future update.

Future Plans for the Jimo Three Kingdoms Series

The Enhanced Edition is only the beginning.

In the future, we will continue refining our gameplay ideas and exploring experiences that best fit the identity of Jimo Three Kingdoms.

Once our gameplay systems and formats become more mature, the series will continue telling stories from the late Eastern Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms era through independent releases.

Future content will follow two directions:

Main Story Projects

Released as standalone games.

Each title will focus on a different historical figure or major event from the Three Kingdoms period, telling a complete story from a unique perspective.

Mini Games & Party Multiplayer Projects

One direction will be highly replayable single-player experiences, released as additional content connected to main story projects, such as survival-style gameplay.

The other direction will be independent party multiplayer games with:

  • Simple rules

  • Addictive gameplay loops

  • Unique visual styles

More information will be revealed soon!

Next Single-Player Project:

Jimo Three Kingdoms · 184 · Cao Cao

In 184 AD, the Yellow Turban Rebellion erupted.

Players will take the role of a young Cao Cao, departing from Luoyang on a journey to investigate the Taiping Dao Manual.

Along the way, players will meet many historical figures from the Three Kingdoms era and become involved in conflicts between:

  • The Imperial Court

  • The Empress Dowager's faction

  • The Eunuchs

  • The Scholar clans

  • The Yellow Turbans
