Vampirii 1.1: Changes in Hunting and Feeding feedback

major update

Vampirii · published · build 16888367

What is new in Version 1.1? Changes and the reasons behind them.

Fellow vampires,

The "hunt and feed" cycle before "getting out of town" in Vampirii faces a challenge when it comes to meeting two goals at once:

* providing a narrative experience that approximates that of a table top game with some unnecessary complexities removed; and
* keeping the pace of the game such that players can spend enough time to feel both immersed and invested in the story and the character's "life" as a vampire, but not so much time that a mechanic would become to feel repetitive.

Hunting and feeding are both core mechanics that balance the rest of the questing, provide the fuel for leveling up and fighting, and keep our character grounded in reality regarding his new existence.

Depending on the life story background, the player faces different options and chances of success when negotiating windows, garage doors, roofs, and places where keys might be hidden. While the narrative pool of scenarios and outcomes offers enough variety (including 1/20 and 1/10 occurrences while attempting to beak in), sooner or later a player has seen all the outcomes.

To address this issue, the following changes were made:

* When facing a situation for the first time while prowling residential areas, the player will see the full text describing the scene and the outcome of any action chosen. When the same situation occurs again later, the description will be omitted (unless it is very short) and the outcome will be presented either directly by loading the next portion or in a very short message that indicates the outcome. For example, when trying to enter a home through the window after a scenario has already been experienced, a successful outcome will bring the inside content right away and a negative outcome will bring a message, such as "it doesn't open."

* Also, the comments before and after feeding were removed, expect for the very first instances. While they will be missed, these comments ran the risk of becoming repetitive and simply resulting in having to click extra times. If players desire that comments come back in some form, they may be made a randomized rare occurrence.

The final and fastest feeding grounds do not involve entering and breaking and thus received no changes. These are already "fast enough" in both leveling and sustenance.

Happy hunting!
