Warlords Under Siege · public · first seen
Hi everyone! It’s been a good while since our last update, and we’re sorry it’s taken this long. There are a few reasons for the silence, so let’s start with the biggest ones.
First of all, I (Kommissar) moved back home to Poland after spending 20 years in the UK. Settling back in has come with its fair share of challenges and interesting situations, which left me with less time than I’d have liked for game development outside of my full-time job. Gothim has also been extremely busy following some major changes at work.
Between the two of us, we simply weren’t in the right place to make the changes Warlords Under Siege needed. And, frankly, it needed some pretty fundamental ones.
Still, we kept chipping away at it whenever we could, alongside working on a few prototypes, and eventually ended up completely overhauling the combat system. This is by far the biggest change in the update.
Individual units now act independently within their squads. They deal and receive damage individually, have their own pathfinding, and generally behave much more like actual individual soldiers rather than a single unit represented by several models. There are still a few quirks to iron out, but based on the testing we’ve done so far, we’re pretty happy with how it feels.
We’ve also expanded the card system to support what we’re calling Global Powers. This has allowed us to introduce some new types of cards, such as temporarily empowering all of your units with poison arrows. If you enjoy this mechanic, it’s something we’d definitely like to explore further.
Fire has also been completely reworked and should no longer become useless at higher levels. Whenever fire is applied, it now deals a flat 10% of the target’s health as damage. This means braziers can suddenly become extremely important when dealing with particularly tough enemies.
And finally, we’ve added a new card called Fate Predetermined.
With this active, your cards are drawn in the exact order they appear in your deck.
That’s right. No more randomness.
On top of this all, we've done hundreds of performance improvements and fixes to various crashes!
If you come across any issues, you can simply revert to the previous version of the game in Game's Properties in the STEAM client.
Last but not least, we've also been working on another game, very, very slowly! It would be a massive honour if you could check out and wishlist Orcthal - our take on survivor-likes, but with a twist! You're an orc, and you raid (and build up your orc village!).
Remember to join our discord as well! Now that we're back into the flow, we hope to do more with Warlords, but for this, we need your feedback and suggestions! And who knows, maybe it's time for WuS2? Bigger, and better? Let us know what you think!
