Weapon Audio Synchronization - FUBAR Co-op mode

Last night, I stress-tested the FUBAR Co-op mode with four players, and it turned out to be a fantastic experience. Thanks to that session, I was able to identify and fix several bugs based on the feedback we gathered.

This update focuses on major improvements to the multiplayer experience, including:

  • Multiplayer inventory fixes – resolved critical issues affecting item management across sessions.

  • Spectator camera overhaul – redesigned for smoother transitions and better visibility.

  • Weapon audio synchronization – refined to ensure consistent and immersive sound effects.

  • Map performance optimization – improved stability and reduced lag across all environments.

  • UI layout polish – adjusted to look sharp and consistent on every monitor size.

Here’s the complete breakdown of what has changed in this patch.

Multiplayer & Gameplay Fixes

  • Trader Purchases Fixed: Resolved a major multiplayer bug where clients (connected players) would not have their cash deducted when buying items from the Trader. Cash deduction and item delivery now work reliably for all players in a lobby.

  • Explosion Damage Realism: Improved how radial damage (grenades and other explosions) affects your character. Explosion damage is now realistically distributed across individual body limbs (distributing random percentages between 10% and 35% damage per limb) rather than damaging just one isolated spot.

Weapon Audio Replication & Sync

  • Multiplayer Firing Sound Sync: Resolved a major issue where teammate and host weapon firing sounds would occasionally duplicate, cut off, or fail to play for other clients in the session.

  • Host & AI Audio Fix: Fixed a sync bug that prevented clients from hearing the host player or AI combatants shooting. All gunshots are now correctly replicated to all players.

  • Full-Auto & Suppression Audio: Standardized the firing audio flow so that both single-shot and full-auto bursts (suppressed and unsuppressed) trigger cleanly, stop instantly when releasing the trigger, and sync perfectly across the network.

  • Network Optimization: Streamlined how weapon sound states are transmitted across the server to reduce network traffic and prevent sound delay during intense firefights.

Spectator Camera System

  • Corrected View Target Snapping: Resolved the issue where dead players would not look through the teammate's spectator camera upon dying.

  • Fixed Self-Destruction Loop: Corrected the camera's tick logic so it no longer destroys itself on the first frame before the player controller can successfully transition to it.

  • Fixed Camera Spawning Alignment: Resolved a double-addition rotation math bug. The spectator camera now spawns directly behind the teammate's back and automatically rotates with them as they turn, while still allowing the spectating player to orbit 360 degrees around them with the mouse.

  • Position Tracking Replication: Enabled movement replication on the spectator camera actor so it slides smoothly with the teammate as they run around.

  • Fixed Host Camera Hijacking: Fixed a network ownership routing bug where the server host's view would be accidentally hijacked and snapped to the spectator camera when a client died. Now, only the client who died is transitioned to spectate.

  • Automatic Spectator Migration (4-Player Cascade): Added dynamic migration logic for multiplayer games. If a teammate you are spectating dies, the system automatically detects this and migrates your camera to the next alive teammate, preventing spectators from getting stuck in place or staring at dead bodies.

User Interface & HUD Polishing

  • Resolution & Layout Alignment: Redesigned the Inventory/HUD layout to dynamically adjust to different screen sizes. The Character silhouette, Backpack grids, and Shop/Loot panels will now align cleanly on all monitors (from standard 1080p screens up to ultrawide monitors) without overlapping.

  • Dynamic Shop Columns: Configured the Trader Shop to scale with your screen space. The shop list will now display 3 columns of items on larger resolutions, and automatically wrap to 2 columns on smaller screens.

  • Grid Layout Fix: Fixed an issue where the Loot Box and Sell Bin grids were stretching horizontally into wide rectangles. Slot items now render as perfect, uniform squares.

Map Optimization

  • Ukraine Map Clean-up: Removed redundant log meshes from the Ukraine map to optimize collision, player movement, and overall map performance.

A note from the developers: Thank you for your ongoing feedback and support as we continue to improve Direct Contact!
