Dev Diary: Village Reconstruction 🏘️

Hello, Frost Hunters! 💜

Happy Saturday! We’re back again with another Dev Diary, and this time we are taking a closer look at village reconstruction.

Rebuilding the village has always been an important part of Moonfrost, but we wanted the process to feel more hands-on and give you a greater sense of involvement in bringing it back to life.

In the current demo, village reconstruction mainly involves gathering the required materials and submitting them to complete a quest. While this lets you watch the village gradually improve, we felt there was an opportunity to make the restoration process more interactive.

So, we have been expanding the system to let you take part in the cleanup yourself! 😉

A More Hands-On Approach

As you explore the village, you will now come across roads and other areas that have become overgrown or blocked by weeds, stones, piles of rubble and scattered Moonfrost shards.

Instead of simply gathering materials and handing them in, as you do in the current demo, you will be able to roll up your sleeves and help clear the village by hand! 💪

Use your scythe to cut through weeds and overgrowth, or bring out your pickaxe to break apart stones blocking the road. You will also be able to repair damaged sections of the road by filling in potholes and restoring the path as you go. Little by little, each action will help make the village feel brighter, safer, and more welcoming again!

Introducing the Leaf Blower

Of course, not every cleanup job requires a pickaxe or scythe.

We have also been working on a new tool: the leaf blower! 🎉

You can use the leaf blower to move the smaller pieces of rubbish and rubble towards nearby bins, helping clear the area as you go. It adds another way to interact with the environment and makes cleaning up the village super fun! 😉

Naturally, we expect everyone to use it responsibly and definitely not spend the entire day blowing rubbish into increasingly inconvenient places. 😜

Watching the Village Change

Clearing individual obstacles may seem like a small action, but together those actions help change how an area looks and feels. Roads become easier to navigate and the village gradually starts to feel alive again. ✨

We hope this makes reconstruction feel less like completing a checklist and more like taking care of a place. 🫶

There will still be larger restoration quests that require materials and resources, but these new cleanup interactions will sit alongside them, giving you more ways to contribute to the village’s recovery.

Still a Work in Progress

Village reconstruction is still being developed, and we are continuing to refine how each cleanup activity feels. We are excited to keep building on this system and share more of the village’s transformation with you in future Dev Diaries. 😉

For now, we want to know: would you carefully clear every road, or would you get a little distracted playing with the leaf blower? 👀

See you in the next Dev Diary, Frost Hunters! 💜
