Dev Diary: Little Details, Bigger Stories ✨

Hello, Frost Hunters! 💜

Happy Friday! We are back with another Dev Diary, and this time we are taking a closer look at some of the new pixel art and objects we have been working on for Moonfrost. 👀

You may remember from our previous Dev Diary that we have been working on giving NPCs more routines, activities and ways to interact with the world around them.

As we continue working on that, we have also been creating more objects for both you and the villagers to use, from practical everyday items to a few more playful additions. 😉

Creating New Pixel Art 🎨

Our pixel artist, Ash, has been busy working on new assets that will eventually find their way into different parts of Moonfrost.

You might have already spot a few interesting additions here, including a dancing arcade machine, a pinball machine, dart board, an architect’s table and a beehive. 🐝🎮

Each one has its own purpose in Moonfrost, whether it helps you build something, produce useful resources or becomes part of a character moment around the village.

A Familiar Face, With a New Role

Some long-time Frost Hunters may already recognise Ava. 👀

In earlier versions of Moonfrost, Ava was one of the player characters. Now, she is returning as one of the villagers you will be able to meet and get to know.

Things are a little different for her this time around.

Ava has spent a lot of her life looking after other people, but as you get to know her, you may start to see a little more of what she enjoys outside of that. 💜

One thing we can reveal is that Ava is secretly a huge gamer. She enjoys all sorts of games, and at one point she will ask you to make a dancing arcade machine for everyone to play with in the pub. 💃🎮

More Than Just Decoration

Not every new object is simply there to fill a space.

Some will become part of NPC interactions, quests or character moments, while others may have uses you discover as you play.

Some objects are more practical. For example, the beehive will allow you to produce honey and beeswax, giving you more useful resources to gather as you develop your farm. 🐝🍯

We are also working on the architect’s table, which will play an important role as you continue rebuilding the village. You will eventually use it to build and decorate homes for NPCs, giving you another way to shape the village as more residents settle in. 🏡

Building a More Lived-In World

These objects may look like small additions on their own, but together they give us more ways to make Moonfrost feel personal and lived-in. 🫶

Some will help you build and craft. Others will become part of NPC routines, quests or little moments that reveal something new about the characters around you.

Sometimes, an object that looks like a simple decoration at first may end up having a little more meaning once you know the story behind it. 😉

Still a Work in Progress

As always, everything shown here is still a work in progress.

We are continuing to refine these new pixel art assets and how they will fit into Moonfrost. 👀✨

For now, we want to know: which of these new objects caught your eye first?

See you in the next Dev Diary, Frost Hunters! 💜
