New — Window capture (Beta)

  • Whole-window translation — Pick your game window and Playto reads the whole screen, not just a fixed region. Best for text-heavy games.
  • Fast scene changes — When the scene changes, stale translations clear quickly instead of lingering.
  • Show it only when you want — Tap the overlay shortcut to scan and show the current screen, or hold it to show the overlay only while held — the latest translation appears the moment you press.
  • Start style — Choose always-on or toggle on the start screen; you can switch anytime with the shortcut.

Window capture is in Beta and works best when the screen isn't constantly moving. For fast-paced action, hold-to-peek or the cursor mode is usually a better fit. Available in the full version.

Overlay and history — all modes

  • History = what you saw — While the overlay is hidden, nothing is added to your Log or Album anymore. No more piles of translations you never read.
  • Instant re-show — Turning the overlay back on re-shows the current content immediately, and old translations from a different scene no longer come back.
  • Simpler settings — The separate Learning Mode setting is gone; overlay visibility is now the single switch. Streaming captions, when enabled, keep working while the overlay is hidden.

Fixes and polish

  • Mode switching — Switching capture modes mid-session no longer causes missing or misplaced Log entries.
  • Overlay toggling — Show/hide stays reliable when the game covers the overlay or when you press the shortcut right after starting.
  • Start screen guide — A new ? guide on the start screen explains capture modes and shortcuts.

Known issues

  • Side-by-side cards in one region — When a single capture region spans cards or panels laid out side by side, translations can come out line by line, with the reading order mixed between columns. Narrowing the region to the card you want to read gives the best results. We're working on this.

Overlay: lines show as they finish, fewer wrong joins · Each line appears as soon as its translation is ready — in window mode the overlay used to wait for the whole screen to finish. Fewer things between you and the first translation Most reports we received this summer were about the first ten minutes: a download that never finished, an engine that would not start, a screen that stayed quiet without saying why. The August and September updates went after those one by one. · No download b…
