2.3 adds a guided tour, puts the whole app on show in Demo Mode, and fixes how bends are drawn.
Guided Tour
The first time you start MPE Insight, a short clickthrough now runs by itself: 16 steps across the toolbar and all nine modules, each with a few sentences and the module's own animation. It borrows Demo Mode so every module has something to show, and it puts your layout and settings back exactly as it found them. Skip or Esc ends it at any point, and it can be replayed from the About menu whenever you want. Updating from 2.2 counts as a first start here, so expect it once.
Demo Mode shows the whole app
While the demo plays it steps every module through its presets, and FORGE and DRIFT have now joined that rotation. Drop a picture or a video into FORGE and its looks start cycling with it. DRIFT cycles its presets whenever the demo is what it is processing, which includes the case where DRIFT has no synth attached at all and is only driving the visuals. When you are playing through DRIFT yourself, it stays out of the rotation: nothing re-voices your instrument under your hands.
Three new FORGE looks
Tape Deck runs the picture through a worn cassette: scanlines, dot grid, chroma bleed, grain and a cyan cast, and the harder you play the further the signal degrades. Heat Haze gives every note its own pocket of hot air, where cc74 tightens the shimmer and pressure decides how far the air bends the light. Molten Core is the same effect as a field over the whole frame, so it churns without being played, poured into metal by false colour and drifting on a slow camera. The last two are also the first presets to use the Heat effect at all, and Tape Deck the first built around VHS.
DRIFT reaches further
The pitch LFO now goes up to two full semitones instead of one, still counted in cents at every size.
Bends read true
Three corrections to the Grand Staff. The Weave path no longer turns back on itself at the edge of the bend wheel. Bend curves now sit on the scale of the key you are in, so a symmetric vibrato draws as a symmetric curve in every key instead of flattening in some of them. And a long note no longer flickers once it has travelled the full width of the panel.
Nothing hangs
Switching DRIFT on while a key was already down used to leave that note sounding on your synth. It now releases what it takes over. Demo Mode no longer leaves notes or expression behind when you stop it.
The false update banner is gone
If the app recently showed you an update notice pointing at an order page for the direct-download edition, that was a bug, and this update fixes it. The Steam build was mistakenly running the update check that belongs to the direct-download version. Steam keeps you on the latest version by itself; the app will never ask you to download anything.
Also fixed
FORGE's Strobe Backlight flashes hard again instead of glowing continuously, and Retro Pixel VHS can be switched off again, by preset or by All Off.
Nothing to do on your side: Steam updates the build for you.
