Welcome to Roguefort Demo v0.8.0

This update brings a much deeper simulation of NPC lives and histories, a bunch of quality-of-life improvements, and a big general polish pass across the demo.

Townsfolk feel more grounded

(The relationship simulation and many other social features remain full-game only).

  • NPCs greet you based on their own trade, Guild ethos, quirk, and real local place names.

  • Tradespeople talk about their actual work, with far less repetitive dialogue.

  • Hungry or thirsty NPCs say so, and age carries through in their voice.

  • Workers now stand at real stations (forge, field, pen, well), so activity labels always match what they're actually doing.

Quality of life

  • Rest Until Healed (Shift+W), with automatic interruption if danger appears or your vital needs become too low.

  • New keybinding cheat sheet (Help -> KEYS).

  • Spell tooltips now show effective numbers and a full attunement breakdown.

  • Much deeper world map zoom.

  • In-panel action feedback for crafting, cooking, shopping, and seven more interfaces.

  • Controller prompts now match your device (Xbox, PS4, PS5, or Steam Deck).

Title screen & HUD

  • Completely redesigned title screen with a gilded oak signboard menu, new logo/capsule branding, one-click Continue, and repositioned tips.

  • Redesigned top HUD with hand-drawn icons (replacing dingbat glyphs), a permanent two-row layout, and ADoM-style Damage, Armor, Evade, and Speed chips.

Gameplay & content

  • Brand new (rare) field-notes book written and illustrated by ArkHaven: Creature Compendium: Hearthwyrms.

  • New first-boss "demo complete" capstone moment (soft ending to the demo but you can keep playing of course)

  • Shear sheep and yaks for renewable wool. Befriend them to milk and shear them - no more killing animals for wool.

  • Sneaking now correctly halves movement speed, alongside a stealth/backstab rebalance (including preventing AFK XP).

  • Flora selling economy rebalanced.

  • Recipe blueprints now drop from chests and bosses.

Fixes and additions (highlights - there's a lot more)

  • Added new community-created art - thanks to the pixel art team! ArkHaven's submissions have now completed the entire tileset for the trees in the game - a huge milestone and a huge thanks.

  • Fixed fishing "space-wait" input spam.

  • Fixed bed rest instantly cancelling.

  • Crafted and gutted items now stack correctly.

  • Workbench now detects fresh curd, food, and ammunition stored in nearby chests.

  • Dungeon completion percentage no longer becomes negative or gets stuck.

  • Fixed the "Infinite Hatchets 2.0" duplication bug.

  • Inventory navigation no longer lands on invisible slots.

  • Fixed keyboard navigation in the Cook interface.

  • Fixed audio being too loud even at the lowest volume.

  • Fixed black tiles appearing beneath burned objects.

  • Fixed overflow issues in Book Collection and world map tooltips.

  • Various item naming fixes.

  • Minimap no longer marks summoned creatures as enemies.

Thanks for playing Roguefort, and thanks for all of your feedback. Every update continues to be shaped by your bug reports and suggestions - it's been a busy couple of weeks! Which is a long time in Roguefort development time.

Only a month to go now until the release of the full game - more news soon.
