Engine Room Dev Update 0.3.1

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to this week’s Engine Room Dev Update, where we’ll be going over out 0.3.1 patch! This patch is primarily a stability and polish patch but we’ve also rebalanced some things, including train derailment, which will now be more punishing. There are also new custom settings when starting a new game, fixes for a whole load of multiplayer crashes and desyncs, fixes for some save/load issues and we’ve made improvements to the audio including stopping audio from playing across the whole train and updates some UI icons.

As always, the demo is being updated alongside the full game, so if you’re keeping an eye on EverRail and you haven’t tried it out yet, feel free to download the demo (do let us know what you think if you do!)

We’re still at the start of our Early Access journey, and there’s a whole exomoon of content we plan on adding to the game over time! If you want to follow along with our plans, we keep our Trello updated with our plans, and you can check them out here: https://trello.com/b/0MIQ3LJ6/everrail-development-roadmap

Without further ado, here’s this week’s Patch Notes:

Notes:

  • Derailment is now more punishing at every difficulty - more damage and a shorter grace period.

  • In the demo, Auto-Feeder III and Iso Collector II–V can no longer be crafted (Auto-Feeder I–II remain available, and the basic Iso Collector is still part of every glider).

Improved: Audio

  • Sounds of cockpit door, expedition door, lift in the train, shooting pistols, and killing spider drones are no longer heard by everyone regardless of distance

  • Health charger sounds now fall off with distance and play correctly for clients

Improved: Interface & Presentation

  • Custom Difficulty menu now shows the missing setting descriptions, and derailment options are grouped in the derailment section

  • "Enemy Amount Per Facility" moved to the Gameplay – Enemy category

  • Added descriptions for the Enemy Difficulty sliders, Passenger Count, Inventory on Death, and Cold Build-Up Rate

  • Removed the button movement animation in the main menu

Improved: Performance

  • Reduced texture memory usage on all humanoid enemy robots

  • Opening and closing chests no longer causes frame rate drops

  • Fixed connection problems caused by track generation saturating a client's network bandwidth

Changed: Balancing and Crafting

  • Derailment deals more damage with less grace time on all difficulties

  • Coolant Packs and Lab Samples now give proper recycling results

Bugfixes

  • Fixed the inventory not opening with the "I" key in multiplayer

  • Fixed T2 and T3 Target Scanner Drones

  • Fixed train throttle resetting to zero after loading a save, and the throttle display not updating for clients

  • Fixed moving items between containers losing the item's identity

  • Fixed rubber banding after a client dismantles an enemy

  • Fixed crafting sound effects continuing after cancelling or leaving the crafting menu, and queue sounds playing for uncraftable or full queues

  • Fixed a crash when loading a save game with missing data

  • Fixed a host crash when a client left the game while using a writeable sign

  • Fixed a crash caused by the track generator's cleanup timer

  • Fixed a crash when a tool ability activated while the character changed or died in the same frame

As always, patches like this are only possible because of all the feedback and bug reports we receive from you in the community! Please keep sending us all your thoughts and any issues you might come across, either on Steam in our discussion threads, on Discord in our dedicated feedback and bug report channels, or in game using the F2 bug report tool! We’ll be back next week with another patch, until then…

Be Amazing Everyone!
