Performance Update

Hey racers — this update is all about making the game run smoother.

Performance

Fixed a major rendering bottleneck — frame rates are dramatically higher on all machines
Fixed a stutter that could occur every time a track piece was placed during the build phase
Fixed several micro-stutters around race starts
V-Sync is now enabled by default for a tear-free picture (your saved setting is kept if you changed it)
Smoother speed effect: the field of view now widens gradually with speed instead of kicking in abruptly

Fixes & Polish

Rocks and mesas show their original colors again (no more odd color patches or color-changing rocks)
You now get a clear message when the connection to the host is lost
The "Default" button in the video settings now restores the correct factory values
Various smaller bug fixes under the hood

The game also logs anonymous, local-only performance data now — if you ever hit a problem, we can help you much faster. Nothing is uploaded; the files just sit in your game folder.

Thanks for all the feedback since launch — keep it coming, and see you on the track!

Game update3 Sep 2026Hotfix — Steam invite joinFixed an issue where joining a lobby through a Steam invite from the main menu left the main menu visible on top of the lobby screen. The menu buttons stayed clickable, so it was possible to hit QUIT by accident mid-session. Joining through the lobby code was never affected. Thanks to maousami and the Garden crew for catching this on stream and for sending over the repro steps afterwards.Game update17 Aug 2026Performance Update: Cooler Menus, Better Laptop SupportThis update massively reduces CPU and GPU load in the menus. Due to a bug, the game was rendering the full 3D world hidden behind the menu screens — laptops ran hot and fans spun up before the race even started. Menus are also capped at 60 FPS now, so your machine stays cool while you're browsing. On top of that, VELOCRASH now detects weaker graphics chips (like integrated laptop GPUs) on first…Game update12 Aug 2026Stability UpdateFixes a rare issue where the round transition could stall on the host (cars not teleported to the start, no finish line spawned). Mostly triggered when drivers had already finished while the next round was starting. No gameplay changes.
