Combat system rework

  • End-of-chapter bosses, optional fights and the enemies that block the way on the routes of chapters 1 to 5 are now fought blow by blow
  • Your character chains attacks, each with its own bar, and the enemy only loses life when the attack completes. Each attack tells you how much life it takes off
  • Combat experience comes with each blow and depends on the life it takes off, not on the time you spend fighting
  • The enemy no longer wears you down second by second either: it hits you every 5 seconds with one of its attacks, which you see on screen with its name and damage
  • In the combat box you see the enemy's life, how long until its next blow and your attacks, under Combat instructions
  • If you leave to heal in the middle of a fight, when you come back it picks up where you left it
  • Pause Lethal takes the enemy's next blow into account: if it would leave you below the threshold, your character leaves before taking it

Class attacks

  • Soldier, Counterattack: stands on guard for 5 seconds, during which the enemy's blows are blocked, and then hits 50% harder. 50 second cooldown
  • Ranger, Stealth: starts every fight hidden, and the enemy does not attack until the first attack completes. Stealth lasts at most 20 seconds of combat; if the first attack does not land in time, it is lost
  • Ranger, Sneak Attack: hits 50% harder, and twice as hard as a Normal Attack if it comes out of Stealth. 50 second cooldown
  • Mage, Fireball: hits every enemy in a group at once and deals each one 50% of normal damage. 50 second cooldown
  • Attacks go out by priority: the first one on the list that is not on cooldown is used. You can change the order with the arrows or by dragging them, and it is saved per character and per enemy

Fights against groups

  • Giant spiders, withered vermin and the fleshless now fight as a group, each enemy with its own life and its own blow
  • Single-target attacks go to one of them, and leftover damage carries over to the next
  • Each enemy that falls stops hitting, so the fight gets easier as it goes on

Combat box

  • Expand shows the whole box even if it does not fit in its panel
  • Collapse shrinks it down to the name, the life bar and the buttons to queue
  • The floating numbers of your blows show up at most once per second

Your characters offer each other help

  • The escort no longer arrives on its own when you move on to the next chapter: now another of your characters gives it to you
  • When a character enters a route that is hard for them, they leave a request for help from the class that masters that route
  • The character of that class gets the Offer help action in the same room, a conversation that grants the escort to everyone who was waiting for it on that route
  • The escort is permanent: it survives death and reincarnation, and it goes with you in the fight and the obstacle of that route
  • The escort always carries the current name of the character who helped you
  • The first time you go through the route with your escort, the log tells the story, and whoever offers the help gets their own dialogue too
  • In blow by blow fights the escort has its own box and attacks with you: every time you complete an attack, they launch a Normal Attack. The experience is still all yours
  • A ranger escort also makes you start the fight in Stealth
  • Escorts you already had under the old rule are kept

Talking with your companions

  • When you reach the end of chapter 5, the other characters in your save who have already reincarnated wait for you there, and you can talk before heading in
  • Talking with them leads to a conversation related to the chapter 5 memory
  • Each one introduces themselves with the name you gave them

The temple's Heal is single use per life

  • Once fully spent, it counts as done like any One-time action and disappears from the room
  • If it stops early because Life is already full or because of the percentage, the progress is saved and you can keep using it

Fixes

  • Fixed a game crash that could happen every so often with a ResizeObserver warning
  • The newly unlocked action notice has been removed, as it was the most likely source of that crash, along with its setting in Advanced options
