Rent Due v0.1.4, The County Update

This is the biggest update Rent Due has ever had. The world opens up, your tenants become real people with voices and opinions, and being a landlord finally means walking your own streets.

The County Opens Up

  • A real travel map: head out any door, pick your stop, ride the bus. Press M anywhere in a neighborhood to pull it back up (rebindable in Settings).
  • The neighborhoods have names now: Jackson Mobile Home Park and Harrison Estates, with every address rewritten to match. Proper bus stops in both.
  • Open roam: walk up to any home you own and it opens up automatically. Step out of the yard and it closes behind you. No more Visit button round trips just to check on a property.
  • Glowing diamonds over every home you own: green means rent is ready, blue means applicants are waiting. New setting to keep them visible at all times.

Walk Up Rent Collection

  • Tenants with rent ready already stand at their open doors. Walk over, press E, do the handoff, keep walking to the next one. The laptop Collect button stays as the guided option.
  • Rent keeps human hours: at midnight everyone still outside walks in and shuts the door, and the doorsteps fill back up at 6am.
  • The envelope got smarter: a late fee toggle next to Take the Check, with a tip showing exactly when the fee reaches you.

Tenants Are People Now

  • Over 30 tenant looks and 20 voices with accents from all over: British, Latin, French, Italian, Australian, Nigerian, Egyptian, Indian, Korean and more. A tenant keeps the same face, body and voice from application to doorstep.
  • Every tenant interaction is fully voiced and their lips move as they speak: doorstep conversations on both sides, rent day greetings, screening small talk, incoming calls.
  • Talks have teeth: demand money a broke tenant does not have and the conversation turns on you with harder choices. Eviction threats say the word and mean it.
  • The talk card shows the lease facts (rent, schedule, days left, missed payments) so every doorstep offer can be judged on the spot.
  • Desk negotiations at the office: counter an applicant's offer with the COUNTER stamp. One shot, take it or they walk. The line queues in arrival order, no duplicate applicants, and the file pulses when a background check is ready.
  • Raise and renewal notices now say when the new rate kicks in (their next payment).

Auctions

  • AuctionBay runs twice a week (days 1 and 4), each with its own lot.
  • Auctions are faster and actually winnable now: rooms open hot and tire out instead of outbidding you forever. Your funds show under the current bid, losing refunds your entry fee, and a losing streak eventually catches you a break.

The Bank, Redesigned

  • Borrow exactly what you need with a typed amount. Your credit line grows with your portfolio, credit standing shows on the balance card, repayment stays automatic and weekly.

Economy Pass

  • Slow payers hand over bigger payments, closing the gap to about 80 to 90 percent of a daily payer. Weekly income shown everywhere so schedules can be compared.
  • Fixed applicant incomes that could beat their own yearly income, daily rent skipping every second day, and the cousin rent exploit.

More New Stuff

  • Uncle Sam's course updated to match the new travel map: his lessons now route through it, and the map highlights each goal along the way.
  • Character creation: drag the mouse to spin your character in the preview, with a hint showing how. The save slot preview no longer clips into its chair.
  • RentRoll property pages: a Visit button right in the header (hidden while the home is rented) and a readout showing how furnishing lifts the going rate.
  • Main menu community column: join the Discord and read game news right from the menu. In-game bug reports now get a thank you screen with a Discord button, and yes, we read every single one.

Fixes and Polish

  • Fixed the massive lag spike when walking up to a property you own. Three separate causes, all gone. Walking your street is smooth now.
  • HUD level section redesigned (long rank names no longer get cut off), keybind hints redesigned, one unified loading screen with fresh tips.
  • Notifications pause during loading screens and resume after. Overnight news arrives one banner at a time instead of a pile.
  • The laptop opens straight to the desktop, no startup screen. TAB opens Furniture Upgrades with a single press at your property.
  • Fixed the office computer ignoring E with something in the way, a call button firing twice on double clicks, mailboxes blocking paths, long property names overflowing their cards, and the laptop getting stuck after trips.

See you in the county. Come say hi and tell us what you want next:
