The Performance Update on Beta Branch

This build is all about performance. No gameplay changes intended, just the same game running a lot smoother, especially on large automation maps at high speed.

What's fixed

  • Multi-second freezes on big automation maps caused by a flood of sound instances
  • The long freeze when closing the build menu on big saves
  • Constant UI cost: train labels and panels no longer rebuild the interface every frame
  • Hitches when many trains spawn or despawn at once
  • Distant train sounds are now culled and repeated board sounds no longer stack
  • Slow frames no longer snowball into a stutter spiral; on very slow machines game time briefly slows down instead

We need your playtime

These fixes rework how the game handles rendering, sound and internal scheduling, so they can ripple into many parts of the game. Before this version reaches everyone, we want real hours on it.

If you have a big save, load it up and play normally. Then tell us what breaks, or that nothing does, that helps just as much. Watch especially for odd train spawn order, routing issues after bulldozing, and missing or wrong sounds.

How to join

The unstable build is available through our Discord community. Join us at discord.gg/railroute, check the #untsable-version channel and grab the build, play, and share what you find.

We need you on Discord where you can report the issues! Thank you for helping us test!
