Smoother Play in Crowded Areas

This update is a large under-the-hood rework of how the server sends world updates to your client, aimed squarely at the lag and stutter that showed up as more players logged in at once.Previously the server re-sent the complete state of every creature, player, and object in your view twenty times a second, whether or not anything about them had actually changed. A field of idle mobs standing perfectly still cost exactly as much bandwidth as a full-scale battle. Now the server only sends an entity when something about it genuinely changed — it moved, took damage, changed animation, and so on. Idle creatures cost nothing at all until they do something. Positions are also sent rounded to whole pixels, which shrinks every update further without any visible difference in movement. What you should notice:

  • Less lag and smoother movement in busy areas and during large fights

  • Noticeably lower bandwidth use, which especially helps on slower or metered connections

  • More headroom on the server as the population grows

This change required updating both the server and the game client together, so you'll need to be on the latest client version to connect.

Chat Window Default Position Fix

Fixed the default position of the chat window overlapping the skill bar for new characters. If you'd already moved your chat window, this doesn't touch it — it only affects where it starts out for players who haven't repositioned it yet.## Combat Sounds No Longer Carry Across the MapFixed hit and block sounds being audible at full volume no matter how far away the fight was. Combat sfx now play at full volume when the action is on your screen, quieter when it's just off-screen, and are silent once it's out of range entirely.

Quiver Fixes

  • Fixed right-click "Equip" on arrows in your inventory doing nothing — left-click and drag-to-quiver already worked, right-click now does too

  • Dorin the Blacksmith now sells Quivers, so you can buy a replacement if you ever lose the one Aldric gives you

Party Member Name Rendering Fix

Fixed party member names in the party sidebar rendering distorted/overlapping text at certain resolutions. The name label was being resized off a settings value it shouldn't have been reading, independent of your actual font size preference — it now scales the same consistent way as the rest of the UI.

Quest Tracker Objective Text

Quest objectives in the Quest Tracker sidebar and quest log were only ever showing bare progress numbers (e.g. "0 / 1") with no indication of what to actually do. Every quest objective in the game now shows descriptive text alongside its progress, e.g. "0 / 1 Talk to Dorin".
