Controller support

  • Full gamepad menu navigation: focus highlighting, held-direction repeat, navigation sounds, and button prompts that match the active device.

  • Steam Input support with official per-controller layouts for Xbox One, Xbox 360, Xbox Elite, PS4, PS5, Switch Pro, and generic pads.

  • Choose your gamepad casting layout: Bumper Casting (default) or Button Casting (classic).

  • Steam button glyphs are rendered as pixel art.

  • Controller rumble added.

  • Shops and spell-slot management are fully operable with a gamepad. Drag-and-drop becomes two button presses on a controller.

  • The game pauses if a controller disconnects mid-run.

  • The game dynamically switches between keyboard and controller instantly, if you want to do that for some reason.

Spells

  • Spell enchantments reworked. Each spell's passive is now a distinct named effect: Caustic Coating (Acid Splash), Magnetic Infusion (Ball Lightning), Rolling Thunder (Charge Beam), Coyote Spirit (Dash), Firebomb (Firebolt), Spirit of the Hare (Fly), Last Stand (Heal), Mana Leech (Ice Storm), Sneak Attack (Invisibility), and Vampiric Touch (Mend).

  • Heal and Mend now restore real health instead of granting overhealth.

  • Acid Splash summons the flask instantly; hold the cast to throw it.

  • Spell and enchantment descriptions rewritten to state their actual numbers.

Glyphs

  • Glyph of Steadiness is now Glyph of Repulsion: it increases knockback instead of reducing it.

  • Removed the Renewal and Sustenance glyphs. Their underlying stats were folded into the healing and mana cost stats the other glyphs cover.

Boss

  • A new phase.

  • Fixed player tracking bug (sorry).

Progression

  • A new NPC owns the movement upgrades. Go say hi in the Grand Hall. :)

  • New Overhealth department in the meta shop: spend Gloom on persistent starting overhealth.

  • Reworked pacts to give overhealth. We've basically inverted health and overhealth this patch. heal spells heal real health, while the shops give overhealth.

  • Added a tutorial for new players. A tutorial starting area on your first run and periodic dialogues between Gary and Hat.

Enemies

  • Wisps now visibly react when they spot you.

Performance

  • Shaders and other assets are now compiled at startup behind the splash screen.

  • Procedural generation optimization.

  • In other words, loading is waaaaaaaaaay faster.

Audio

  • Audio output device can now be selected in settings.

Visuals & UI

  • Heavy hits now have juice.

  • New splash screen.

  • New pickup sprites for Gloom and Mana Node drops.

  • New panel art, tooltips, and menu highlight/dim treatments throughout the UI.

Other

  • Engine updated to Godot 4.7.

Happy Gloomsday.
