Atout has a new engine — and a new game to go with it

Atout has a new engine.

Atout is now a native application, built with Godot. Same games, same rules, same opponents — but a single version to keep honest everywhere.

  • No system component to install on Windows any more. It just starts.

  • One and the same application on Windows, Linux and macOS.

  • Gamepad navigation now covers the whole game, menus included. Steam Deck verification is under way.

Six languages

Atout plays in French, English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and Simplified Chinese. Not just the menus: every game's rules, the Cardopedia, the achievements, the hand names, right down to the message telling you a move isn't legal. The translation has been done with generative IA so it may contains error.

A language only appears in the selector once it's complete — we'd rather not offer it at all than drop you into English halfway through a sentence.

A twenty-third game

Big Two (Chor Dai Di) joins the collection: the great Chinese climbing game, where you shed your hand by outbidding — card by card, pair by pair, straight flush by straight flush.

And four new ways to play what was already there:

  • FLUX All Wild! — 112 cards, every one a wild. No colour left to match, nothing but effects.

  • FLUX Teams 2v2 — four players, two sides, partners sitting opposite.

  • Spider, 1 suit and 4 suits — the game's real difficulty setting, finally selectable.

That makes 23 games and 47 ways to play them.

Warm atmosphere - The time of day, and the weather

  • Daylight — the table is lit by the hour where you are: low and orange at sunset, blue at night. Adjustable by hand, or off entirely.

  • Ambient weather — rain or snow over the felt, if you're in the mood.

  • Daily deal — the same deal for everyone, all day long. Work in progress

Around the table

  • 🃏 Cardopedia — eleven decks, explained: where they come from, what each figure means.

  • 📖 Rules — every game's rules, readable from the menu, in your language.

  • 🏅 76 achievements and per-game 📊 statistics: games played, wins, records.

  • Game log — who played what, since the start of the round.

And above all, the rules

Most of the work doesn't show. We read every game back against its official rulebook and fixed what had drifted: the last-card call in Crazy Eights, the +4 challenge in FLUX, choosing which card you capture in Hanafuda, the drawn round in Koi-Koi.

As for the opponents, they no longer attempt a single move the rules would refuse. That isn't an intention — it's measured on every build, across a full game of each of the 47 games and variants.

Multiplayer

Nothing changed for you; everything changed underneath. Online through our own server — quick match, public lobby, private room, and your seat handed back if you drop — or over your local network. Friends join with a code.

All of it is in the Playtest, free, right now. If something locks up, tell us in the Steam discussions — that is exactly what it's for.

Good game.
