EXOGEN LABS - SUBJECT ADVISORY
Advanced testing programs face reconstruction. With new researchers comes new soundwaves, and the Exogen surgical team's latest creation...-- Exogen Trial Operations
Hello Test Subjects!
We've emerged from Exogen's labs to bring you an important update on our plans for Killing Things With Your Friends and its Next Fest demo.
An opportunity recently came our way that was too good not to take, and as a result we have made the hard decision to cancel our demo for Steam Next Fest this June.
We're confident that our demo would have been worth losing an arm for, so don't fret, there's still plenty more mutant mayhem to come.
There will be more opportunities to play Killing Things With Your Friends later this year, and a steady stream of development updates lined up to show you exactly what we are building, so keep your eyes and ears open!
In the meantime, read onward to see what we've been cooking!
We know just how important sweet beats are for chopping up your buddies - err - enemies. That is why we are thrilled to announced that Jeremy Cullen is back to score the soundtrack for Killing Things With Your Friends!
Jeremy is a long-time collaborator who composed the music for three of our previous titles: Element, Doomsday Vault, and Monster Racing League - and this time he's bringing an electronic edge to our brutalist labs. Expect dark synths and slick guitar shredding to fuel your mutant-grinding sessions.
Turn up your volume and have a listen below --
In Exogen Labs, a false sense of security is the only sense of security, and that's exactly what the elevator offers to our test subjects.
Who cares what happens after that door opens when you could be vibing to this little jam?
In more audio news, we're thrilled to announce Nia Lovelis (drummer and musician, formerly of Hey Violet) will be taking up the role of the Exogen Labs Researcher!
Prepare to have her direct, gibe, and analyze your performance over the intercom while you plunge into the depths of Exogen Labs' ever-changing trials.
Check out the short below to catch a first listen of her voiceover work in action --
As we lock in our rewards and progression mechanics, we are rolling out all-new results screens to fuel a little friendly competition.
Subjects who perform better earn more, and the best of the bunch walks away with the title of MVP!
Your personal records are tracked, allowing you to see just how many mutants you've killed, friends you've betrayed, challenges you've completed, and just how many times you've needed Exogen Labs to reassemble your fleshy body.
We covered the Body Config in one of our previous development blogs, so definitely check that out if you'd like to learn more about progression in KTWYF.
We're still balancing rewards and tweaking the costs of upgrades, buffs and cosmetics, but with the addition of these feature's we're already noticing a greater appreciation for earning a better body.
Exogen Labs have out-done themselves with this freaky beast, creating their most lethal mutant yet!
We've teased it enough - gaze at this new abomination of nature below --
The Porcupine is a lethal threat at any range. It swipes at you up close and fires spikes from afar at a blistering rate, quickly shredding unprepared participants.
But like all mutants, you can tear them apart and harvest their arms and legs as your own.
Equipping its legs lets you fire a wide spread of powerful spikes - but watch out that the heavy kickback doesn't send you flying off an edge to your death.
Mutant Changes
The addition of this new enemy brought us back to the drawing board with some of our other mutants.
The Beetle Blaster now does AOE splash-damage.
Squids limbs now inflict poison damage over time.
That's all for now - we'll have more to share and more opportunities to play soon!
Have fun diving into all the fantastic demos by other incredible teams showcasing their games during Steam Next Fest!
Cheers,
– KTWYF Team
