Not many people have the chance, or the misfortune, of seeing the Downbelow during their lifetime. You, in your very particular situation, are lucky to be here!
Nobody has ever returned from the depths of the Downbelow, so not much is known in the Archipelago about it. You’ll have to explore it deeply to understand and uncover all its secrets.
The Downbelow setting is a beautiful open world, hand-crafted by our fantastic team. This means the scenario is set and fixed, which is a question we’ve gotten often lately.
It’s divided into biomes, distinct sections with different settings, environment, vibe and Temtem. Some biomes even live inside other, bigger biomes, like is the case for the Crystal biome, which we unlocked with your support! We’ll tell you more about each biome in further updates, but for now, gaze upon the new world that will open to you.
There is also a day-night cycle in Pioneers, which influence the Tems that appear in each biome, so watch as your surroundings change into different times of day, and the inhabiting Temtem with it!
Exploration is, with combat and crafting, one of the core pillars of Temtem: Pioneers. Exploring will push everything forward for you, from achieving stronger Tems, to unlocking materials, recipes, trinkets, and more.
The resources you find along the way, which are key in your progression, regrow after a certain time, so you can continue harvesting and gathering for as long as your real-time allows.
You will soon discover you cannot reach all the biomes right from the get-go. Some of them are protected by Bosses, intimidating and fascinating Temtem that have become much more powerful than their peers. We’ll share more about Bosses in a future update, but for now you should know these guardians will be gatekeepers to your progress in Pioneers.
But you know what won’t gatekeep you? Restricting survival mechanics. We don’t want the survival theme to be so restrictive that it deters exploration or combat. There won’t be a thirst or hunger mechanic, or any forced sleep mechanics: you can choose to rest, and it will create a respawn point like it happens in other survival games, but you’re not obligated to rest during certain hours, allowing you complete freedom over how you spend your time.
The game will only progress as fast as you do, so you can set your course and regulate the pace of your adventure!
