DevLog #8: Putting on some shades

In DevLog #6, roughly a month ago, I announced that I would try out a slighty changed visual style for RUTHLESS:1, and bar some very frustrating moments trying to set up a new shader, I am quite happy with the results. For me, it was obvious that the style needed to highlight the colorful side of the game, not the dark side. Keeping in mind what I posted last week (detailing on Mechs), I had to make sure those Mech details do not get lost.

Enough chit-chat, now, I will share a preview of what RUTHLESS:1 might look like after the next update.

The color depth is reduced, complimented by strong, dark outlines on models to give a bit of a cartoon-ish look and I think this fits the tone of the game perfectly. Going forward, this will be the default style of the game and it's promotional material.

If you think this is a bit too intense or maybe you liked the original style more, fear not, you can both reduce the strength of the graphical effect or deactivate it altogether.

Here are three images of the same scene for you to compare: 100% effect, 50% effect, and turned off.

I really hope you like the visuals; they will appear in-game in version 0.6.0.

This is it for now.

Greetings from Berlin,

Alex
