Tyr's 7-day playtest begins tomorrow

Tyr Playtest · published 29 May 2026, 15:12 UTC

All newsPlayers around this dateRead on Steam

Welcome to the latest Tyr dev update. This time around, we're getting ready to kick off our longest playtest ever and a fresh patch that brings new balance, UI tweaks, and Atlas tuning.

Plus, we'll share the winners of our latest cash tournament and the dates of the ones we've got upcoming.

As always, you can read the text version of this week's update here or enjoy it in video form.

If you are jumping back into Tyr after a break, this is a good moment to get caught up and get your squad back together.

Let's dig in.

How to join...

If you're not already a playtester for Tyr, you’ve got two ways in:

  1. Request access on Steam - It's random, but we admit players in growing waves ahead of each playtest.

  2. Ask for an invite in our Discord - Our community has access to invites that provide instant playtest admission.

No wipes between now and launch

We've had a lot of players ask about this, and we want to clarify: We are not planning to wipe accounts between now and launch. That means everything you earn during the playtest, from cosmetics to progression, is expected to carry forward.

We know wipes can make it hard to stay invested, so we want your time to matter. This also helps us validate progression pacing, rewards, and unlock expectations with real player behavior, not just internal projections.

UI updates: clearer reads in fights

We have been making UI changes to improve readability, especially when multiple players are clustered together or when you are engaging at range. These updates are focused on reducing visual noise without losing the information you need to make decisions.

Here's what's been tweaked...

  • Health bar improvements

  • Enemy and ally health bars are smaller to reduce clutter in close engagements.

  • Health bar placement has been adjusted to help with readability when targets are grouped up, and to keep bars more consistently in-frame, including in longer-range views.

  • Tank names listed for clarity below the health bars, so you can pick out Kestrel and Atlas at a glance.

The goal here is simple: fewer situations where you are trying to read a stack of overlapping bars while also tracking movement, shells, and ability effects. These changes should help you pick targets more confidently, especially in chaotic team fights. Keep an eye out for edge cases and let us know if anything feels harder to read in specific scenarios.

Atlas turning into... Fastlas?

Atlas has received a set of adjustments:

  • Mass increased to 100k from 70k

  • Camouflage reduced to 0 from 2

  • Max speed increased to 23 kph from 21 kph

  • Acceleration time increased to 2.5 from 1.9

This is aimed at dialing in Atlas’ identity and how it shows up in fights and rotations. We are looking closely at how often Atlas is able to reposition, how safely it can take space, and how consistently opponents can read and respond to it.

As always, we will be monitoring data and feedback throughout the playtest window. If Atlas now feels too strong, too weak, or just weird in specific engagements, tell us what happened and where.

Updating the direction line on the minimap

The minimap orientation line introduced in the last update now points toward the camera direction instead of turret direction.

This was a direct ask from players, and it is exactly the kind of feedback that helps us prioritize improvements that make Tyr feel better to play. Thanks for the callout!

Expanse added to Custom Games map pool

We have added our new prototype map, Expanse, to the Custom Games map pool.

Expanse is experimental. True to its name, it is large, and it is built to support flanks, rotations, and impactful scouting play. It is also the kind of map where small layout changes can massively impact flow, so your feedback is especially valuable here.

We want your feedback on:

  • Flow and pacing

  • Sightlines and power positions

  • Spawn and objective pressure

  • What feels fun, and what feels frustrating

If a particular lane feels dominant, if a rotation feels too safe, or if a certain area becomes a permanent stalemate, call it out. Your help here is always appreciated. 🫡

Fanart channel now live in Discord

We have added a Fanart channel in the Discord, and we have already started seeing great work coming in. We love seeing what you create, whether that is serious illustration, quick sketches, edits, screenshots, or something that is purely for laughs. This community has been building its own identity alongside the game, and fanart is a big part of that.

If you have something to share, drop it in. If you do not, consider reacting and supporting the artists who are putting their work out there. We will also be highlighting some early pieces, so keep an eye out.

Tournament winners and upcoming tourney dates

A shoutout to the winners of our most recent tournament: THUMBS.

We saw 10 teams grapple across a bracket of best-of-5 matches, ending in a championship bout between THUMBS and SMAKD. THUMBS picked up three straight sweeps to claim their second tourney championship, including one in this final round.

We have more tournaments in store (see the image above), too, and each will feature the following prize pool:

  • 1st place: $1,300 USD

  • 2nd place: $700 USD

  • 3rd and 4th place: $250 USD each

Want in? Head to our Discord, grab the Competitive role from the role bot (if you cannot find it, ask and we will help), then sign up for the tournament. Do not have a team yet? No problem, we also offer Free Agent teams and placements.

See you on the battlefield. 🫡
