Playtest Update - Round 5
Everything below is new since the last playtest build. The headline is the Outfitter: your ship, your tools and your crewmate can all be dressed now, and everyone aboard sees what everyone else is wearing.
NEW - The Outfitter
- 114 pieces across 23 slots. Ten on the ship (sails, hull, emblem, wheel, flag, cannons, deck lanterns, figurehead, capstan, bell), seven for your tools (sword, spyglass, lantern, compass, shovel, bucket, hammer) and six on your crewmate (top, bottom, hat, back, left hip, right hip).
- Four ranges plus the stock look. Every slot carries the issued version free, two common looks and two premium ones.
- The crew sees you. What you wear and what you carry is replicated, so your crewmates see your outfit and your tool skins, not their own.
- The ship is shared, your wardrobe is yours. You can equip anything YOU own to the ship and everyone sees it. You cannot equip something you do not own, but you will see a crewmate's choice on the ship whether you own it or not.
- Your ship's look follows you. It is saved to your account rather than to a voyage, so a new run starts in the colours you left off in, and the main menu shows the ship you actually sail.
- Previews show the piece on your own crewmate, at the angle it actually hangs, for the character your seat gives you.
NEW - Galleons and the gambling table
- The Gambler has set up in the tavern. He sells galleons for quota gold in three stacks, and a stack is split between the whole crew.
- Liar's Dice at his table, and a friendly table below deck for playing your crewmates rather than the house.
- Galleons are the Outfitter's currency only. Gold that buys them leaves the run for good, so what you spend on looking good is gold you are not putting against the quota.
NEW - The Lost Lullaby
- A new job. The tavern's music box goes missing, and the shelf stays empty on the day it is out there to be found.
FIXED
- The mouse cursor no longer gets stuck on screen. Opening and closing the voyage chart could leave the OS cursor up for the rest of the session, and no menu would clear it. The cursor is now owned in one place: it is there while something wants it and gone the moment nothing does.
- The ship no longer gets thrown when she touches something. The violent shove near land and at the dock was the physics engine separating an overlap at full speed. It is capped now, so she is still pushed clear but firmly instead of launched. Sailing itself is unchanged.
- Crouching brings your hands down with you. Tools and carried crates stayed at standing height while you sank under them. They follow the body now, and the movement eases at both ends instead of stopping dead.
- The tavern is fully dressed before you walk into it. The gambling table's lamp and the music box used to appear a second after you loaded in.
- Clouds no longer blink in and out overhead.
- You can no longer sleep through the tavern ceiling by standing on the shelves below the bedroom.
- A crewmate's spyglass behaves. It sits in the hand when carried, and rises with their arm when they look through it.
- The shop list scrolls anywhere over it, including while the pointer is on a cosmetic.
FOR PLAYTESTERS ONLY
- Press F12 to open the job picker. Tick any jobs you want to see, sleep at the tavern, and they will be on the morning's board. It is host only, hidden until you ask for it, and it does not exist in the demo or in the release build.
Known: cosmetic prices are a first pass. Tell us whether earning galleons feels reasonable against the quota rather than something you have to grind the dice table for.
