This update fixes several things that made Playto look broken during play, and adds tags to the wordbook.
The bar and the mouse
- Bar hides while a game captures the cursor — in shooters and other games that grab the mouse, the bar used to steal clicks and pause the game. It now leaves the screen while the game hides the cursor and comes back when you stop aiming. Translation keeps running.
- Close it yourself — press the × at the top right of the bar. The session keeps reading and your shortcuts still work. The Resident mode card on Home shows "Bar hidden · Show" to bring it back.
- Start while the engine is loading — pressing Start on the bar while the engine is still starting used to do nothing. It now shows "Starting the engine…" and begins on its own when ready.
- Bar follows you to another game — moving to a game on another monitor no longer leaves the bar behind.
Overlay
- Lines no longer vanish after a few seconds — on screens with many lines, part of the overlay could disappear until the next change. It now stays until the text actually goes away.
- Short all-caps labels get translated — labels such as STASH or MAP DEVICE used to come back untranslated and were hidden. Playto retries them and shows the translation.
- Steadier boxes — the same spot no longer flips between one line per box and one merged box from tick to tick, and labels that jitter no longer trigger a new translation every time. Numbers such as HP still update.
- Text cleanup — icon placeholders and checkbox marks no longer show up in the overlay, log or word details, and the near-text minimum font size now follows the Overlay Font setting below 100%.
- Placement stays yours — switching game packs no longer overwrites the app-wide overlay position.
- Stat panels line up — in character sheets and other label tables, a translated block no longer slides left of its column or gets centred like a name plate.
Wordbook tags
- Group your words — Words has a tag row: create tags, add a word to one or more of them, or select several words and add them at once.
- Practice by tag — "Practice this tag" on Words, or pick a tag in Practice. Session Review can add newly saved words to a tag.
Resident mode
- Words from resident sessions wait for you — when a resident session ends, its words are kept per game instead of interrupting you. The Resident mode card on Home lists them; open Review when you have a minute.
- Review hint on the bar — after Playto follows you to another game, the bar shows the previous game's word count for a few seconds; click it to review.
Setup and engine
- No second model download after setup — setup no longer downloads a larger model in the background. Hy-MT2 is the default; other models are still available in Settings for image mode and pairs Hy-MT2 does not cover.
- Laptops with two GPUs — on PCs with both an integrated and an NVIDIA GPU, the engine could hang at start in Auto mode. It now uses only the NVIDIA driver for that step.
- Voice playback when voices are not installed — the speaker button used to be greyed out with no explanation. It now says why and offers the download; Settings shows the same option.
- Faster GPU speech model download — the GPU speech model now comes from Playto's own servers instead of a slow mirror.
- Early Access page in setup — first-time setup now has a page that says Playto is in Early Access, with two cards that take you to Discord or the Steam forum, so you know where to go if something does not work.
If something still feels off, tell us through Contact us in the app, Discord, or this Steam thread.
If Playto is part of your gaming, a short review helps other language learners find it — and we read every one.
