Regular Update A-0.0.0m

Combat System

The combat system has been expanded in several areas.

Unconsciousness

Concussions have been added as an injury and trigger the “Unconscious” moodlet. While unconscious, the screen remains black, just as it does during sleep.

Combat Interface

The combat bar has been redesigned and now takes up less space.

Morale

Morale represents your character’s remaining will to fight. This also applies to NPCs. Taking hits and experiencing the resulting pain can lower morale. If it reaches 0 during combat, the character automatically surrenders. They do not need to be unconscious or physically exhausted for this to happen.

To initiate a new fight, you need at least 5% of your maximum morale – with a maximum of 100, that means 5 points. During an ongoing fight, you can continue attacking below this threshold as long as you have some morale left. If you are attacked outside combat while below 5% morale, you surrender immediately and the attacker wins. After a defeat caused by morale loss, you receive the “Discouraged” moodlet. It displays a five-minute countdown. Your morale does not recover during this time. Afterwards, your will to fight gradually returns: Without pain, you recover 2% of your maximum morale per minute. Pain slows recovery but does not stop it completely. As the pain subsides, your morale recovers faster. If you start at 0 morale and have no pain, you can initiate another fight after a total of seven and a half minutes. You will not be fully recovered at that point. Being attacked again while “Discouraged” or during the subsequent recovery phase below 5% does not reset the countdown or remove any morale you have already recovered: You surrender again while your recovery continues.Your morale continues to recover during normal activities outside combat. Time spent logged out also counts towards recovery. Recovery pauses during an ongoing fight. The morale bar marks the 5% threshold and smoothly displays your recovery progress. Your character sheet also explains why you currently cannot initiate a new fight and how pain affects your recovery. Once you have enough morale, you can start fighting again.

Character

Weight and Lifting

Characters now have their own weight, determined by their height, race, age, and sex. Map objects now have weight as well. Alongside this, the ability to lift other characters and map objects has been introduced. Whether your character can lift them depends on their Strength attribute.

Following

An initial feature for following other characters has been added.

Footprints

Footprint size now scales with the character’s size. How clearly the prints appear also depends on their weight. The following screenshot shows the differences between the footprints of an adult man and a young girl.

Character Creation

Work has begun on redesigning the layout of the “Select Race” step.

Skill: Gathering

The Gathering skill has been added. Use the /gather text command to activate gathering mode. In this mode, your character searches the ground, reducing their view distance and movement speed.

A message is now displayed when the game server cannot be reached.

If the connection is lost, the game first attempts to reconnect to the server for ten seconds. If this fails, you are automatically returned to the login screen.

The login screen’s background music has been replaced.

Survival Gameplay Loop

Work has begun on a simple survival gameplay loop. The Gathering skill provides its foundation.

Player Construction

Being able to build your own structures is central to both survival and general gameplay. The first addition is a simple campfire. Open the build menu by pressing B or clicking the “Build” button. The campfire currently provides light and a slot for a cooking vessel. Cooking will play a larger role in the next update.

New Items

The Stick and Basalt Stone items have been added. Both materials are required to build a campfire. The Iron Pot is currently only available through an admin command. The next update is planned to introduce a way for players to obtain it through gameplay.

Bug Fixes

  • Characters can no longer move using WASD during dialogue.

  • Fixed one cause of characters getting stuck during the arena’s introductory dialogue. Other causes may still remain.

As usual during the A-0.0.0 development cycle, all characters have been deleted again.
