Hello Everyone!

Welcome to the first Engine Room Dev Update, where we’ll be taking you over the changes in the 0.2.2 Patch for EverRail!

Since launching into Early Access, we've been hard at work tackling your most reported issues while making improvements based on your feedback. This update brings better multiplayer reliability, improved stability, gameplay balancing, quality-of-life improvements, and fixes across many areas of EverRail.

Every bug report, screenshot, video, and suggestion you've shared has helped shape this update. Thank you to everyone who's taken the time to tell us about your experience - we're reading it all, and it's helping us make EverRail better with every release.

Now, without further ado, here are the (rather chunky) patch notes:

New Features & Improvements

  • Improved item container syncing to make multiplayer interactions more reliable.

  • Updated the Repair Tool visuals and improved the look of the Dismantling Tool.

  • Added new input and network warning messages.

  • Added a configurable FPS limit with a minimum setting of 30 FPS.

Fixes & Improvements

  • Improved voice-line for rescuing passengers with the UX Hacking Kit Tutorial.

  • Added a warning voice line when starting a crafting queue with energy costs

  • Fixed gliders still responding to controls after crashing.

  • Fixed train damage visuals and effects not displaying correctly.

  • Fixed custom game preset buttons and deletion confirmations not updating properly.

  • Fixed dismantle prompts getting stuck for clients.

  • Improved aiming responsiveness for multiplayer players.

  • Fixed issues with the Glider Blackbox item.

  • Improved glider launch feedback to make it clearer.

  • Prevented accidental button presses while the death and game over screens are appearing.

  • Fixed multiplayer issues with writable signs.

  • Fixed dismantling tools incorrectly destroying resources.

  • Improved building placement reliability in multiplayer.

  • Fixed crafting queues appearing in the wrong crafting stations.

  • Fixed a crash that could happen when quickly switching between toolbelts and tools.

  • Fixed world collision issues after resizing areas of the map.

  • Fixed train cart collision problems.

  • Fixed players being able to launch gliders inside tunnels.

  • Fixed tracked items showing the wrong crafting station information.

  • Improved building placement so client inputs are less likely to be missed.

  • Fixed collision issues with dungeon railings.

  • Fixed cases where players could get stuck in elevators.

  • Reduced large performance stutters when leaving the train.

  • Fixed Glider Loadout Station placement issues that could block walkways.

  • Fixed crafting queue syncing issues between players.

  • Fixed several crashes, including:

    • Crashing while firing just before dying.

    • Drone movement crashes.

    • Crashes when reopening Settings.

    • Crashes caused by quickly switching equipment.

  • Fixed the "Load Last Save" button replacing "Continue" on the Game Over screen.

  • Fixed repair tool issues where clients could not use the tool and repair effects were not visible.

  • Fixed building spawn locations so floors correctly appear inside the train.

  • Fixed Glider Loadout Station updates when changing the active glider.

  • Fixed minimap hiding behavior so only the map is hidden while time and seed remain visible (Editor multiplayer only).

  • Fixed invisible stairs for clients.

Gameplay Changes & Balance

Tutorials

  • Added the "Treat Hunger and Cold" tutorial to the normal onboarding flow after your first expedition.

  • You’ll now be guided through:

    • Building a Laboratory.

    • Crafting Field Rations.

    • Crafting Hot Soup.

  • This tutorial will be skipped if you’ve already completed the challenge.

Survival Balance

  • Hunger now builds up less fast. (1 point per tick instead of 1.5 points per tick)

  • Hunger and cold now begin damaging characters at 100% severity instead of 75%.

  • Increased Energy Cell capacity of Level 2 and Level 3 cells. Higher level cells are still expensive but are a notable improvement for stop time. Together with the loot changes they are more affordable.

  • Iso burner items are 10 times more effective to make it visible they charge the battery while active.

Storage Improvements

Storage buildings now hold more items:

  • Small Storage: 8 → 10 slots

  • Medium Storage: 16 → 27 slots

  • Large Storage: 24 → 48 slots

  • Huge Storage: 40 → 72 slots

Loot Balance

Updated dungeon loot containers:

  • Medium Containers: 1–3 items → 2–3 items

  • Large Containers: 1–3 items → 2–4 items

  • Lockers: 1–3 items → 2–4 items

  • Adjusted dungeon loot progression for a smoother difficulty curve.

Localization & UI Improvements

  • Added the new "Load Last Save" option on the Game Over screen.

  • Improved text compatibility for international players.

    • Improved language support with fallback fonts for characters not included in the default font.

    • Updated text support to better handle different writing systems.

  • Updated the Game Over menu to properly use localized text.

  • Fixed UI text issues across different languages.

We’re already hard at work on the next update, and we’ll be continuing to improve the game and add new features throughout Early Access!

That's everything for this update - please do keep sending us bug reports and your feedback, either here on Steam in our Discussion threads, in game using the F2 Bug Report tool, or on our Discord!

Be Amazing Everyone!
