The first update since launch, and it is a big one
This one collects everything done since the build you are playing. Keyboard and mouse are unchanged.
FIXED
- 🐄 Team management: hand the driving to a companion, the buggy stays with the group, a prisoner never rides.
- The enemy hunts each character as in 1989. Stark gets shot at from minute one.
- Captured means captured: control passes to the next free teammate, or EVERYONE IS IN PRISON.
- Jailed teammates dimmed on the TEAM screen; rescue messages no longer read like a capture.
- Companions are saved with your game.
- Alertness as in 1989: sleep is the only thing that restores it.
- Ski falls follow the decoded 1989 rule, read the slope ahead of you, and scale with difficulty.
- Ski and buggy steering no longer speeds up with your frame rate.
- The hang glider crashes on a nose-dive and never lands inside a building.
- Demolished buildings show their ruin, keep it after a load, and leave no invisible wall.
- Missile reload with MISSILE RELOADING and TORPEDO IN FLIGHT; one warning per incoming missile.
- Dynamite: no free top-ups; SUPPLIES adds 28 sticks, a magazine fills you to 56.
- Cable-car pylons: pass under the arm, crash on a leg.
- Windows open with the title bar on screen; GAME OPTIONS tiles no longer shrink their text.
- Every screen is retro art now.
- First-time tips return on a NEW GAME and do not replay on a load.
- The title and Academy backdrop is a fixed landscape, no frozen gauges or scope left behind.
- BACK TO TITLE SCREEN and CLOSE MIDWINTER each ask about saving with their own card.
- FIRST AID lesson: you wake inside the bunker before the nurse arrives.
- UPHILL + STAMINA lesson: rest points count from farther away and the card shows the STAMINA figure.
ADDED
- Controller support on every screen: D-PAD moves, A presses, B closes, the selected item is ringed with its tip shown as text.
- Steam Deck support, in beta.
- Strategic map: hold A and move the RIGHT STICK to pan. The RIGHT STICK scrolls the FROSTOPEDIA and long cards.
- PLANT EXPLOSIVES and RESISTANCE work from a controller.
- Cards and prompts name the buttons in your hands, pad or keyboard.
- DISPLAY OPTIONS and SIZE tiles; the window comes back where you left it.
- OPTIONS before a game starts, with RETURN TO START SCREEN to come back out.
- COMPANIONS: take control of anyone in the same building; he drives the same buggy.
- Your team sleeps together in a building, one card for all.
- After a lost campaign, B takes you out to REBELLIOUS DOGS.
🐄 = reported or suggested by Kuhminator K-2000 - thank you.
CONFIRMED WORKING
- 🐄 Escorting Professor Kristiansen to a free radio station brings four more people to the cause - it was already in, and Kuhminator K-2000 confirmed it in play.
KNOWN
- The Arctic Survival School's DOWNHILL CONTROL lesson is closed while it is being rebuilt. Its tile reads DOWNHILL CONTROL - WORK IN PROGRESS, is dimmed, and cannot be entered. Every other lesson is unaffected.
- The HEADQUARTERS building picture is still modern while the rest of the game is retro.
- Returning to the title screen while an Academy page is already showing can leave you on that page instead.
- One FROSTOPEDIA cheat page still names SPACE where a controller player needs a button.
- RPG grenades never miss (100 percent hit) - the hit rate is being tuned for the next build.
