A World Moving Beyond the Road — Developing Logistics and Village Life

When you travel through a third-person field, a road should be more than a path between locations. It should connect villages, people, goods, and danger.

This update focuses on the systems behind GEKOKUJO's Living World: logistics, village life, and the risks that appear along the road.

LOGISTICS AND VILLAGE INVENTORIES

In many RPGs, shops can feel like they have an infinite supply of items. For GEKOKUJO, we are working toward a world where goods are produced, carried, consumed, and remembered as part of the world's state.

Current development is connecting village inventories, production, seasonal food, finite shop stock, and population stability into the Living World foundation. The goal is not only to show the world moving when the player is nearby, but to make it feel as if caravans and supplies continue to move beyond the road ahead.

DANGER ON THE ROAD

If goods are moving through the world, then there should also be people who depend on them — and people who threaten them.

We are developing the foundations for road danger, transport, blacksmith-related locations, and those who disrupt the road. These elements are intended to become events and situations the player can encounter during the journey.

This helps give Party travel more meaning. Battles should not happen only because an enemy is placed on the map. We want journeys to involve protecting someone, delivering supplies, crossing dangerous roads, hearing rumors, and deciding where to go next.

CURRENT DEVELOPMENT STATUS

These systems are still in development. Logistics, village inventories, road danger, blacksmiths, and shop behavior are being tested and adjusted in the current local development build, and both the specifications and presentation may change.

Even so, this is an important step toward making GEKOKUJO not only a third-person RPG you can walk through, but a world that continues to move even when the player is not looking.

Thank you for following the development of GEKOKUJO.

This is not an announcement that the Battle System is finished. The current focus is on making exploration, party members, the Wolf Companion, and combat controls feel connected within the same field screen. Making party status readable in the field In the current development build,…Community4 Sep 2026Building More Dynamic Party Battles — Improving Enemy Targets and Combat FlowIn the new third-person field, we are developing Party Battles where the protagonist, Party Members, and the Wolf Companion all share the same battlefield. Our current focus is on a simple but important question: who do enemies target, and how should the battle change when a companion is hurt? MAKING PARTY MEMBERS PART OF THE FIGHT In earlier versions of the battle system, enemy attacks were to…
