Hello again, Tamers! We hope you’ve been enjoying the end-of-the-week updates, and oooh are you in for a treat today! Let’s talk about the guardians of the Downbelow: let’s talk about bosses!
You’ve already heard a couple things about bosses, since we’ve mentioned them in a few posts, even shown you a hint in the trailer, but today they bare their fangs for everyone to see.
Bosses are Temtem that have grown, both in size and power, beyond their wild counterparts. In doing so they have become guardians of the land, fierce protectors that will not take lightly to you wanting to get past them. Of course, you must get past them: bosses will block access to certain biomes, but also to certain resources needed to progress further, improve further and discover new recipes. They’re gatekeepers of both locations and progress, so tackling them is unavoidable.

Bosses have a special kit of techniques and combos that make them much more dangerous than their normal counterparts. Their Techniques are strengthened and improved versions of the Techs that your Tems have as part of your squad, with bosses being able to tap into different elemental types as well. This can look like more projectiles, wider areas, AoE that damages large areas, and more. And to make it all the more exciting, bosses can have more than 4 Techniques, which is the maximum that your Temtem can have. They can also spawn normal Tems to become their minions and make the battle more difficult for you. Like we said, they won’t be gentle to trespassers.
Not all bosses behave the same way: each one has their own specific behavior, with some being more aggressive, some more evasive, some more prone to summoning minion Tems. Bosses can also have different phases, and experience behavior and Technique changes depending on the phase, so you must stay alert throughout the entire battle.
Visually, bosses have an evident, significant increase in size, but also changes to their physique and new visual effects. While we can’t show you any boss in-game yet, we can offer you this incredible concept exploration of boss Gharunder (spoilerrrrr!), one of the first confirmed bosses of the Downbelow, and the one we’ve made more progress on! Please remember these images are part of a whole work in progress, and the final results may vary!

You can beat bosses alone, or bring your friends to face these fearsome foes together! Even in a co-op server, you can always choose to tackle them alone, and do the work for the team. Do keep in mind that bosses become more aggressive the more Tamers are battling against them, and they have Techniques that focus each Tamer individually, so all of you must dodge them. They will still pose a challenge to a full squad of friends, so stay sharp!
Many of the bosses you find across the Downbelow can be beaten more than once after you defeat them for the first time, so you can test your mettle against them as you tame and level up a stronger squad of Tems, and also to gather important resources from them.

We think it’s really exciting to suddenly see a creature this massive as you explore the Downbelow, and all the boss Tems feel brand new with the visual changes.
We know you’re super eager to know which Temtem will become bosses, but since we’ve not closed the final number we can’t say for sure yet.
We’d love it if you let us know which Tems you think fit the boss category through the comments, our Discord server and our socials! The theorycrafting is always a very fun part of a Kickstarter campaign. We can't wait to hear your thoughts!
And if you can, add Temtem: Pioneers to your Steam or Epic Games Store wishlist! It's the next best thing after backing our Kickstarter campaign :)
