Hi Birds!
We're swooping in on the final stretch. After two years of working on Sparrow Warfare we're closing in on releasing this game into the wild. There's still much to do in our final months of work. So this post will give a short update on what we will add to the game's release version.
We have separated the challenges of progression from the unlocks in order to give you meta-progression as befits a roguelite. There are 15 packs of 3 tiles that are unlocked by meeting challenges. The challenges they are associated with range from beating the game 7 times to setting off a ton of bombs in one run. The idea is that you have to make use of all available synergies to unlock even more possibilities.
Enemies get tougher and their number increases as you progress through the game. New tiles you unlock help you to face tougher challenges that you reach by beating flight after flight in progression mode. The complete game will feature 13 flights per character. Each one requires you to play slightly different, so your overall knowledge of the game is your most important asset.
The finished game adds the Way of Water as a third playable character additionally to the Way of Fire and the Way of Song. Water is stronger than stone (just look at a coastline or a river bed) but it also easily vaporises or dissolves. By slowly building up stronger and stronger tiles, you'll be able to overcome your opposition in entirely new ways.
We've added 3 new levels to the game that will be unveiled in the release build. The lands of ice are full of strange birds that have the powers of frost. The desert is full of Fata Morganas, dream-like mirages that maybe are not even birds anymore. The Land of Legends is populated by ancient birds of myths. Will you face off the storyteller at the end of it?
Off course we will also add achievements to the final game. We have nearly 20 implemented and will bring that number to around 30 until release. Some of them are pretty wild, if I may say so.
Onwards & upwards we swoop.
