Temtem: Pioneers - FAQ

Let's jump into some of the most asked questions about Temtem: Pioneers!

Is this game Temtem 2?

While Temtem 2 is not entirely out of the question, Temtem: Pioneers is not meant to be Temtem 2.
With Pioneers we wanted to explore a new genre —a survival adventure— and learn as developers, while also becoming familiar with a new engine.
We know how much our community desires a Temtem 2. We don’t think a traditional MMO scales well with turn-based gameplay, so Temtem: Pioneers will help us test a real-time ARPG which could, in turn, make us more prepared to tackle a possible Temtem 2 in the future.

Is Temtem: Pioneers going to be live service game?

No. Temtem: Pioneers will be a game with a beginning and an end. We'd like to be honest and transparent about the finite nature of the content, as it was a very valuable lesson learnt from Temtem.
We believe we can take the game further with the help of this Kickstarter, but we want to be upfront about our plans for Pioneers in the long run.

Will it require being online to play? Can you play solo? How’s the multiplayer experience?

You can play both solo and offline in Temtem: Pioneers, and in online multiplayer co-op. 6 players can play in the same server instance together, and can battle wild Tems, challenge bosses, build and explore together.
After learning from our community during Temtem’s development, we felt it was important to give our players the choice this time. We hope you enjoy Pioneers both solo and online!

Do Digital Temtem exist in the Downbelow?

Digital Tems are a man-made creation using the most advanced technology in the Archipelago, so they have not naturally appeared in the Downbelow. They are not included in the 200+ Temtem you'll find in the Downbelow.

Why are there no console versions in the Kickstarter? Will it come out for consoles?

We prefer to focus our current efforts on PC, as it allows for better reaction times and space for iteration during development. Launching on consoles would make it more challenging to stay on schedule and would add an additional layer of complexity to the full release, and we can’t reliably predict which consoles will be available at the time of our launch.
Additionally, we’re still early in development and haven’t tested performance on consoles. We’d rather not commit to a release we can’t confidently guarantee will meet both our standards and yours.
We want to eventually release Temtem: Pioneers on consoles, and we’re keeping them accounted for during development, but they won’t be our priority for now.

Will this be Steam Deck Compatible?

We will do our best to provide a good experience while playing the game on a Steam Deck upon its release.
Both of our previous games, Temtem and Temtem: Swarm, are verified on Deck, so we've got a positive track record!

How long will it take from the Kickstarter campaign until full launch?

We’re aiming for a full launch release of Pioneers in 2028, if everything goes according to plan!
Backers with Alpha access will be able to play the game much sooner, and provide valuable feedback during development.

Will a copy of Temtem: Pioneers be more expensive once the Kickstarter ends?

Yes. We want to offer initial backers a discounted copy as a thank you for their trust in the project and the support provided to us and the game ahead of time. Late pledges will have an increased price.
Once Temtem: Pioneers can be purchased outside of the Kickstarter, the price will also increase. We're unable to provide exact numbers right now, but we'll announce it beforehand when the time comes.

Does the game include microtransactions?

No. MTX are not planned for Temtem: Pioneers.

What about Mac and Linux?

The Steam key in the Kicsktarter is only for Windows and Steam consoles. Unfortunately, we aren’t planning to support Mac and Linux per se. It’s a lot of work to support the three platforms at the same time, and our previous games’ sales on those platforms have not been strong enough to warrant the time and resources it would take to tackle different OS.
On a lucky note, Proton allows Windows games to run on Linux via Steam Play, easing the access of players on Linux.

Can I live stream, broadcast, or share screenshots and content from Temtem: Pioneers during Alpha access?

Sure! But please be mindful that the Alpha period is a work in progress meant as a controlled testing and feedback environment, and might not represent the actual experience of what Temtem: Pioneers will offer.

What languages will Temtem: Pioneers be available in?

Temtem: Pioneers will be available in English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil) and Russian.

Thanks for following Temtem: Pioneers so far! We hope these answers help better understand the game and our plans for it, and hopefully help you like the project more!

If you want to support Temtem: Pioneers or gain access to the Alpha period, you can become a Backer in our Kickstarter campaign.

See you tomorrow for another update, Tamers!
