Bureaucratic Society: A Crash Course of Ledgerbound's History

The Weft: a magical plane of unfettered power. At least one sinister force has been found living there: Hy’oth. It corrupts the good nature of anyone unfortunate enough to come into contact with it by promising eternal power. In its quest for total domination, Hy’oth can manipulate entire species to do its evil bidding.

No one who currently lives on Eldarra originated from the planet. The Myowan species were the first to arrive on Eldarra, having narrowly escaped the clutches of Hy’oth’s minions: The Vacari. As more refugees arrived, civilization formed. Eventually the Myowans unified Society under the official Queendom. As the centuries marched onward, memories of the Vacari faded away into an ancient myth.

To restore order and peace of mind after the Caster Civil War, the Queendom established our beloved Bureaucracy! They developed complex procedures to standardize every aspect of life. Documentation became the pinnacle of Society and the Ministry of Paperwork was established to chronicle everything of importance.

Protocol became the foundation of Society. Eldarrans understand that there’s a proper way to do everything and that everyone must follow the established policies. How this manifests in day-to-day life includes, but is not limited to:

  • With proper documentation, anything is legal! Assassins, for example, formalize their intent to execute their grim assignments with the Assassin’s Guild. Thieves have a Ministry of Compulsory Appropriation to officially log the transference of goods. This is just a fact of life!

  • Insurance is important, especially for riskier professions. That’s why Hero’s Insurance is such a lucrative market.

  • The Queen rules over all, although her many, many advisors largely handle the day-to-day of government operations.

Casters eventually provided everyone’s basic needs like food and shelter; society entered an era of prosperity! During this Renaissance, new inventions were developed, explorations were undertaken, and artistic endeavors were prioritized.

Scientists cracked the code behind astrological phenomena, such as solar eclipses, that guarantee powerful Casters are born. Discovering the cycles of Eldarra’s three moons meant more Casters were born than ever before thanks to the ability to accurately time birth under the three moons’ eclipses.

While much of the past has been forgotten to time (and flames), the Vacari’s return leaves the fate of Eldarra hanging in the balance. As you set off on your quest to save your job, the responsibility of Eldarra’s future rests squarely upon you. Good luck!
