New Year, Small but Important Improvements

Posted by: That One Guy Loki from That One Game Studio

Hey everyone, and happy new year!
Hope you all had a great holiday break and a smooth start to the year.

I wanted to kick things off with a smaller progress update. Over the last little bit, development has been focused less on big flashy features and more on bug fixing, usability, and polish, especially around interactions players use constantly.

Workbench Polish Pass

The workbench also got another round of refinement.

New additions include:

  • Sound effects for part swapping, providing clearer audio feedback while tinkering

  • Subtle screen shake when swapping parts to add a bit more physicality and impact

  • A new tooltip comparison view, showing the highlighted part side by side with the currently equipped part

If the screen shake is too distracting, it can be fully disabled in the settings menu.

The goal here is to make tinkering feel satisfying, readable, and quick to understand at a glance.

Hold to Grab for Furniture

One common bit of feedback from playtesting was how easy it was to accidentally grab furniture while moving around the shop.

To help with that, picking up furniture now requires a long press instead of a single click. This adds a small confirmation step that makes rearranging your shop feel more intentional and avoids accidental grabs during normal play.

Booster Pack UI Improvements

Booster packs also received a usability pass.

You can now:

  • Hover over individual parts

  • See detailed stat tooltips directly in the pack UI

  • Compare parts more easily before moving on

This helps make opening packs feel clearer and more informative, especially as the number of available parts continues to grow.

Steady Progress Forward

This update was all about tightening the experience and smoothing rough edges as I continue working toward a polished demo.

With these usability and interaction improvements in place, my next major focus will be a Racing Update. The goal there is to spend some dedicated time refining how races feel from start to finish.

Feel free to drop thoughts or questions in the discussion section.
And if you haven’t yet, wishlisting the game really helps support development.

More updates soon.
