Game update

Roguefort v0.4.7

Hey everyone!

I have an exciting announcement to make today, which is that the demo will now feature the cheese cave system, which is the first phase of a much larger Rind Wars simulation layer - caves becoming contested territory, prize cheeses flowing along supply chains, and a hidden mycelial network tying the continent together. Oh no, spoilers! I said too much already.

When you boot up the demo again after the latest update, you'll find cave entrances dotted around the world, which you can delve into for fame and fortune, and more specifically to plunder the cheesemaking riches of civilizations past and present. Ranging in difficulty, these caves are filled with blueprints for spells (which as you know are types of war cheese in this game) as well as the war cheese itself which drop as loot and can be found in chests and barrels and other spots. So, in the caves you can find powerful and devastating single- and multi-target and AOE damage spells in the form of war cheese that you equip in your spell belt.

This update also ships a number of bug fixes:

  • Linux and Steam Deck launch crash / white screen - attempted to yet again fix the /dev/shm FATAL that caused the window to show only the top menu. Added --disable-dev-shm-usage and a TMPDIR pin so the fallback works under Flatpak/Gamescope. The game now prints its version on the first stderr line for easier diagnosis. Note: this dev needs to buy a Steam Deck to test on!

  • "Bring" / supply quests - quest turn-ins no longer break when the commission slot is full or during one-step deliveries.

  • Well water refill - refilling an empty water pouch at a well now restores its name and description correctly.

  • Cheese recipe bugs - fixed three war-cheese issues: deterministic recipes, cheese-book tab routing, and belt turn-ins. The spell cheese recipe book no longer confuses similar recipes, and tooltip effects now show full details.

  • Playtester-reported bugs - various fixes based on reports from Wheylan, Rustcroft, and issues in the cheese recipe pool.

  • Shield-break constant - corrected the shield break threshold.

  • Demo scenario fixes - addressed R5 water refill and Sm2 demo boundary scenarios, and added flushSync quest updates for reliability.

A number of stability fixes too - including reducing lag under specific conditions.

That's all for me this update - please join us on Discord if you haven't already and please share your screenshots - I love to see what people are discovering in the demo so far.

Timmy Graham
