1.Ballistics, Tracer Alignment & Live Ammunition Roster
I have expanded and fully aligned our terminal ballistics calculations across the following verified live in-game ammunition types:
- 5.56x45mm NATO M855 Ball: Standard high-velocity infantry rifle round delivering 50 HP baseline flesh damage.
- 5.56x45mm NATO M856 Tracer (Red): Corrected spawning, physics trajectory, and visual rendering so rounds emit crisp, high-velocity red tracer beams that actively illuminate dark environments in flight.
- 5.56x45mm LMG Ball & M856 Tracer Belts: Dedicated light machine gun (M249 SAW) ammunition loads configured with independent ballistics and full red tracer belt sequencing.
- 5.45x39mm Standard (PS): Standard Eastern bloc intermediate cartridge delivering balanced velocity and flesh damage.
- 5.45x39mm Armor-Piercing (AP / BS): Hardened penetrator cartridge engineered specifically for punching through high-grade ballistic body armor.
- .300 Winchester Magnum: High-velocity, flat-trajectory precision sniper ammunition bridging the kinetic gap between 7.62x51mm and .338 Lapua.
- .338 Lapua Magnum: Extreme long-range anti-personnel sniper caliber delivering massive kinetic energy and one-shot lethality.
- Exact Bullet Variant Impact Detection: Upgraded the Terminal Ballistics impact parser in C++ (GetTerminalBulletTypeFromImpactInfo) to independently detect and calculate exact ammunition variants on impact rather than grouping them into generic caliber categories.

3. Automated Anatomical Hit-Zone Multipliers (C++)
Damage is now dynamically modified in C++ based on exact skeletal hit locations (Hit Bone Name):
- Head Hit: 2.1x Multiplier (Guaranteed Instant Headshot Kill)
- Neck Hit: 1.5x Multiplier (Critical Vitals Damage)
- Thorax / Upper Chest Hit: 1.0x Multiplier (Full Base Flesh Damage)
- Stomach / Lower Torso Hit: 0.9x Multiplier
- Limbs / Extremities Hit: 0.7x Multiplier (Arms & Legs)
4. 👁️ Realistic Near-Miss Suppression & Combat Eye-Blink System
In intense, close-quarters firefights, supersonic bullets snapping inches past your cover do more than just make noise—they trigger an involuntary, biological survival reflex:
- Involuntary Eyelid Blink (Photophobia & Acoustic Reflex):
- When supersonic projectiles pass within 2 to 4 meters of your operator, the sudden acoustic crack, shockwave, and airborne debris trigger a momentary eyelid shutdown (a brief, smooth blackout blink).
- Point-Blank Snaps (< 0.5m): Deep visual shutdown with heavy screen blackout and recovery.
- Proximity Near-Misses (1.5m – 3.5m): Subtle, smooth visual blink that disorients without taking away full combat awareness.
- Beyond 3.5m: Glancing rounds outside your immediate proximity cone will not trigger the blink reflex.
Directional View Flinch (Startle Reflex): Rounds impacting near your head cause a subtle, directional camera jolt away from the incoming projectile's vector, breaking laser-accurate tunnel vision when pinned down.Sustained Fire Stress Accumulation: Machine gun bursts and continuous automatic fire snapping near your position build up active Suppression Stress. Disengaging behind solid cover allows vision and heart rate to smoothly stabilize within 2 seconds.Tactical Suppression Utility: Laying down heavy suppressive fire directly degrades enemy precision, making support weapons and covering fire essential in squad engagements.
5. Tactical Inventory: Right-Click Splitting, Unloading & Mixed Magazines
I have expanded the Fubar Tactical Inventory system with complete ammunition stack control:
- Right-Click Context Menu (Split & Unload): You can now right-click any ammunition box, loose ammo stack, or loaded magazine in your inventory to instantly select Split or Unload.
- Custom Stack Splitting: Divide large bulk ammo boxes into exact count stacks (e.g. stacks of 5, 10, or 20) to fit specific vest and pouch layouts.
- Mixed-Ammo Magazine Stacking: By splitting ammo types, you can now pack different rounds directly into the same magazine:
- Tracer Count Setup: Load 25x 5.56x45mm M855 Ball rounds followed by 5x 5.56x45mm M856 Tracer rounds at the bottom of your STANAG mag to get a visual red tracer warning when your magazine is running low.
- Armor Penetration Stacking: Top-load 5x high-AP rounds (5.45x39mm AP / BS) over standard 5.45x39mm PS Ball rounds to punch through heavy body armor on initial contact.
Per-Shot Ballistic Evaluation: AFubarWeaponBase::GetCurrentBulletType() queries the exact top round (ActiveAmmoStack.Last()) for every individual shot fired. Each round independently calculates its own velocity, trajectory, armor penetration, visual tracer effects, and damage.
+---------------------------------------------------------------+
LOADED 5.56 STANAG (30 ROUND STACK)
+---------------------------------------------------------------+
Top 25 Rounds: [5.56x45mm M855 Ball] --> 50 HP / Standard
Bottom 5 Rounds: [5.56x45mm M856 Tracer] --> 55 HP / Red Beam

6. 4-Faction Global Operator Roster & DLC Expansion Plan
Operators can now select and deploy as specialized tactical units from four distinct global military factions. The W.C.U serves as the default base game roster, while the remaining three factions (S.A.C, V.O.K, and G.S.G) will be featured in upcoming DLC expansion packs with specialized weapon variants, unique tactical roles, and dedicated faction camo patterns:
- 🇺🇸 W.C.U (Western Coalition Unit) —

7. Operator Identity, Ethnic Diversity & Faction Clothing
I have rolled out a major character customization and visual diversity update. Operators now feature dedicated ethnic variants and tailored skin tones, ensuring every operator on the field looks unique and true to their identity:
- Operator Ethnic Variants: Added distinct character ethnic variants across the roster (including Dark/African, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Caucasian/Default tones). Characters are no longer identical in appearance—each operator now possesses their own unique heritage and natural skin tone.
- Dynamic Modular Gear & Clothing Matching: All modular clothing items, combat shirts, field jackets, and gloves in DT_Fubar_Cosmetics now automatically adapt their skeletal meshes and arm models to match the operator’s specific skin tone and anatomy. When equipping or switching gear in the Customization Locker, matching ethnic arm and hand variants are equipped seamlessly in real time.
- Enhanced Skin Shading & Realistic Tones: Improved material shading, subsurface scattering, and desaturation balance across head and arm textures to prevent oversaturation and ensure consistent, natural lighting in all combat environments.
- Faction Clothing in Upcoming DLCs: Distinct, authentic faction-specific uniforms, combat tops, field pants, and tactical clothing sets tailored to each faction will be expanded and made available through dedicated DLC packs releasing down the line.
8. Tactical 3D Card Selection & Real-Time Multiplayer Role Claiming
- Interactive 3D Card Cycling: Smooth card flip animations allow players to cycle cleanly through operators within each faction slot.
- Tactical Intel Breakdown: View detailed operator bios, callsigns, primary weapons, secondary sidearms, tactical specialties, and star difficulty ratings before deploying.
- Rank Progression Integration: Card titles and badges dynamically pull from your saved player progression data (DT_Fubar_Ranks), displaying your earned military rank (Sergeant, Major, Captain, etc.) alongside your operator name.
- Server-Authoritative Role Claiming: In multiplayer lobbies, selecting an operator instantly broadcasts across the network via AFubarGameState.
- Visual Lock Indicator: Occupied operators turn red and display a status with their selection buttons disabled, eliminating role conflicts and race conditions.
- DLC & Expansion Framework: Added a native entitlement pipeline supporting upcoming Steam DLC packs. Unowned or DLC-exclusive operators display a distinct tag with loadouts previewable in-menu.
9. Scope & Magnified Optics Rendering Pipeline Fix
I have resolved an issue where magnified optics (rifle scopes and magnified sights) rendered with incorrect brightness and exposure, appearing blown-out white or slowly drifting brighter over time in maps utilizing UltraDynamicSky (UDS).
- The Core Issue: Picture-in-picture (PiP) scope captures were previously baking the main camera's exposure and tone-mapping directly into the captured render texture. When drawn on screen, the main viewport applied exposure a second time—doubling tone-mapping and causing blown-out visuals or slow exposure drift while aiming down sights.
- The Pipeline Fix: Scope capture now samples raw linear HDR scene color (prior to exposure and tone-mapping). The main camera applies exposure, color grading, and tone-mapping exactly once, creating a scope view that matches the main environment seamlessly across all lighting conditions.
- Visual & Weather Consistency:
- Stable, accurate exposure matching the main view (no more white-outs or blackened reticles).
- Eliminated auto-exposure drift while aiming down sights.
- Dynamic time-of-day (day, dawn, night), fog, clouds, and dust EV changes now translate seamlessly into the optic.
- Color grading, volumetric fog, atmospheric scattering, and light shafts are preserved inside the scope glass.
Technical Notes: Render target standardized to 16-bit float HDR, sampled as linear color by the Unlit scope material. Manual exposure-copy workarounds have been removed.
10. Tactical UI Audio & Soundscape
- Dedicated Menu Soundscape: Added a 2D local menu music subsystem that plays exclusively on the client viewing the operator screen (zero multiplayer audio bleed).
- Seamless Audio Transitions: Automated smooth fade-in upon opening the selection menu, and an immediate cinematic fade-out upon clicking Deploy.
- UI Audio Channel Routing: Configured to bIsUISound to ensure crisp playback unaffected by game pauses or world distance attenuation.
11. Bug Fixes & Technical Improvements
- Fixed a false-positive diagnostic warning message on screen when binding faction cards in WBP_UnitSelection.
- Optimized server RPC timing (Server_RequestUnitSelection) with a safety delay to guarantee smooth character instantiation on the server.
- Cleaned up UMG widget bindings and memory handling across all 4 operator card slots.
12. Future Calibers Roadmap
I am preparing expanding support for additional specialized calibers in upcoming content drops:
- 6.5mm Creedmoor: High-velocity intermediate battle rifle cartridge for precision long-range engagements.
- .300 AAC Blackout (Subsonic): Optimized for suppressed CQB operations with reduced acoustic signature.
- 4.6x30mm (MP7) & 5.7x28mm (P90): High-velocity personal defense weapon cartridges engineered for CQB armor penetration.
- 14.5x114mm: Heavy anti-structure and light armored vehicle penetrator.
- .50 Action Express & .44 Magnum: High-power hand cannon sidearm cartridges.
Thank you for your continued feedback and support as I refine the tactical realism in Direct Contact! Track ongoing development in real-time on our live Operations Board at directcontact.no/operations.
