Planet Killer Demo Update 0.1.6

Planet Killer Demo · published 3 months ago

All eventsPlayers around this dateRead on Steam

This demo patch adds early controller support, a new Planet Killer title system, more planet destruction polish, improved sound effects, and several important balance changes and bug fixes.

Controller support is still an early implementation, but the game is now playable with a controller and on Steam Deck. More controller polish will continue over time. Next patch will focus on some more mechanics like a missile defense system for larger ships and interdiction/invasions, and continued SFX updates and polish. Check in with our active Discord Community for updates and to discuss the game and report bugs.

New Features & Improvements

  • Added early controller support. The implementation is still rough, but the game is now playable with a controller and on Steam Deck.

  • Added the new Planet Killer Title system. As your Planet Killer emblem rank increases, you now earn a title that is displayed in the leaderboards and Lifetime Stats panel.

  • You can now mouse over your rank to view your Planet Killer title.

  • You can now inspect other players’ emblems in the leaderboards.

  • Increased the variety and depth of Planet Distress transmissions.

  • Adjusted casualty and city numbers in Planet Distress transmissions so they now use a much wider range, better reflecting different planet sizes and population densities.

  • Added planet evacuation ships. Some planets will now launch escape pods attempting to flee.

  • Added dynamic planet magma spouts that appear from damage.

  • Improved Planet Killer emblem scaling, allowing emblems to continue growing in complexity at much higher Planet Killer scores.

  • Added correct button styling to the Return button in the leaderboard select panel.

  • Command Transfer now selects wingmen sequentially instead of randomly. This means your first wingman should be your strongest if you want to transfer to them first after your flagship is destroyed.

  • Reworked the planet threat display. Instead of the more complicated tier system, planets now show a clearer total threat level so you can more easily judge danger at a glance.

  • Your Planet Killer rank title is now displayed in the Lifetime Stats panel.

  • Tweaked the in-game planet generator to create a more 3D-like effect, closer to the detailed planet shown in the main menu.

  • Reduced the transparency of unvisited Star Map nodes, making distant planets easier to see when planning your route.

  • Fixed Star Map tooltip margins.

  • Added an Unreachable popup when clicking inaccessible nodes on the Star Map.

  • Increased displayed weapon range numbers so they better match the game’s scale.

  • Improved sound effects across the board. Some sounds were too quiet, and many have been replaced with stronger versions.

  • Improved player beam weapon sounds.

  • Improved Planet Defense Laser sounds.

  • Improved slotting and unslotting sounds.

  • Added new dynamic missile launch sound effects.

  • Added a new missile close-warning tone.

  • Added a sound effect for planet defense mines being armed.

  • Added a UI sound for losing player shields.

  • Added a UI sound for low hull warnings.

Game Balance

  • Reduced the scaling of percentage-based shield regeneration.

  • Adjusted certain weapon cooldowns.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where +2 or higher fleet size and weapon slot perks only granted +1 additional wingman or slot.

  • Fixed an issue where the galactic shop upgrade box showed upgraded weapon damage based on the weapon’s base values instead of its actual upgraded values.

  • The ESC pause menu now renders above every other panel.

  • Modules that provide percentage-based shield regeneration per second now correctly display how much shield they grant per second in tooltips.
