Hi everybody,
I've added an extra environment to Incremental Retro Racing. It comes straight out of a prototype for a M.A.S.K. trailer I've been working on using the same engine I used for IRR. M.A.S.K. is a cartoon and toy franchise from the 80's that some of you might remember. Unfortunately it seems I failed to convince Hasbro to turn the proposal into a real game. With games needing to make $1 billion revenue to be interesting and all that. But at least there's now this 1 minute M.A.S.K. Trailer:
Since I can't make M.A.S.K. without a license, I'm now trying to turn this into a more over the top co-op arcade experience that fuses the precision of on-rails shooters with the rush of retro racing. It's called Turbo Turbo and in addition to driving you also need to shoot at alien invaders. You don't have to do it alone though as you can play in local co-op as well!
I'm currently running a Kickstarter for Turbo Turbo. Hopefully there are enough people out there willing to fund it. And since Turbo Turbo is using the same engine as IRR any new environments created for Turbo Turbo can be added to Incremental Retro Racing as well! So if you like what you see, maybe go check it out!
It will be featured in the upcoming:
The new environment is the rocky Mesa/Canyon landscape as seen in the M.A.S.K. trailer. It used to be very hard to drive with the rocks extending over half of the road but I decided to cut down on the difficulty since it seemed a little unfair. I like the idea of a special extra hard track though. Something like Fire Field from F-Zero back in the day. Anyway, since it features rocks all over the place it had to have rock music as well. But since IRR has mostly electronic trance-y vibes going on I decided to go with something in the industrial genre to make it fit better, but still leave a rock hard impression. The song is called Urban metal by Ksenia Nikolaeva.
The new environment will be automatically mixed into the tracks after you update the game. If you unlocked and have road object randomization enabled it will automatically add in the rocks from the new environment as well. The update is Windows only for now, Mac and Linux are coming. I just have to borrow the development machine from a friend.
Please enjoy!
