Playto: Learn Languages Through Games · published · build 24571026

Words you already know can still add up to something you do not. This update points those phrases out, so you notice them instead of reading them word by word.
Open the detail panel for a line and Playto lists the idioms it finds there, beside the difficult words it already showed. The log itself is unchanged, and nothing extra runs while you play. The check happens when you open the panel, so translation speed is untouched. It covers English and Japanese.
Tapping an idiom looks it up as a phrase and saves it as a single card, so "run oneself ragged" is not learned as "run" plus "ragged". Tapping a word still looks up that word, exactly as before.
A failed engine could report that no Vulkan device was found, even on hardware that supports Vulkan. The message now distinguishes a missing device from a check that could not run.
An engine that exits without writing anything used to send you to an empty log file. It now says the engine never started, and points at security software and Steam's file verification.
For several languages the default model does not reach the quality we want, Danish, Finnish, Hungarian, Norwegian Bokmal and Romanian among them. If translations look off, you can change the model in Settings under Engine. Models without a language restriction, such as Gemma, often read better in those languages. Which model should be the default for each language is something we are reviewing now.
Choosing Czech, Danish, Greek, Finnish, Hungarian, Norwegian Bokmal, Romanian or Turkish could produce text in a different language entirely. The language is now passed through properly, and a check keeps a language from reaching the menu unwired.
Playto could run on the fallback text recogniser for a whole session without saying so, and game screens were recognised far less completely when it did. The engine is now settled once at startup, and a fallback is reported rather than passing in silence.
Looking up a phrase no longer drops the spaces between its words, which had also been corrupting the definition that came back.
Looking up a phrase now returns a definition rather than a grammar explanation.
A scene in the album could pair its screenshot with a different line of text. Both now come from the same frame.
Overlay text keeps its per-language typeface after you move the overlay or toggle it.
Screens that have not changed no longer run the same recognition again.
The difficulty hints setting now applies to the Sentences tab as well.
