Hey Adventurer!

We're taking part in Steam Programming Fest, September 10–14! If you've ever wanted to turn a little JavaScript into a party that hunts, heals, trades, and gets itself into trouble, come have a look.

Quite a lot has happened since the anniversary update. Adventure Land now speaks 32 languages, there are more ways to get your characters going, and our story has finally begun.

Extra rewards for finding your feet

Three separate bonus examples. Check your active conditions to see what applies to you.

New players, returning adventurers, and those who prefer one character now have Encouragement Bonuses: extra XP, gold, and chances at loot from the monsters they help defeat.

  • New Player: extra rewards during your first 40 days, with the strongest bonuses at the beginning. The XP bonus lasts until that character reaches level 80; gold and loot bonuses continue through the new-player period.
  • Lone Wolf: extra rewards when you're running one non-Merchant character. You can still keep a Merchant online and join parties with other players.
  • Welcome Back: extra rewards after more than 60 days away. There's something waiting for the character you left behind.

These work with manual play and CODE. Your damage, tanking, and useful healing count toward the extra rewards. Click your bonus condition or open GUIDE → Encouragement Bonuses to see what applies to you.

Did that Goo just talk?

The other end — a page from The Voice in the Goo.

“I found your world. Please don't send me back.”

A hunt in Mainland stops when a Goo speaks. Someone is on the other end. Where are they calling from, and why are they so desperate to stay?

The Voice in the Goo is our new 5-page opening comic. You'll find it at the start of the Tutorial, or in GUIDE if you're already playing. Meet the people behind that interrupted hunt. This is where their story begins.

There's a reason this world exists. And there are people who would rather it didn't. We'll let you discover the rest.

32 languages, one shared world

Menus, dialogue, tutorials, guides, and CODE documentation are now translated into 32 languages, including Arabic and Filipino. Choose your language in-game and keep playing alongside everyone else.

Item, map, NPC, and monster names stay the same, and your JavaScript stays JavaScript. Trading for a missing ingredient or sharing CODE doesn't need a translation table.

More help getting your first party going

See the difference equipment and stat scrolls make in the Tutorial.

The Tutorial now takes you further: finding a profitable farming spot, choosing equipment, using stat scrolls, comparing builds, taking monster hunts, and working toward Tracktrix achievements. You can see the actual items as you learn.

Merchants have new lessons too. Run supplies to your fighters, set up a shop, learn to fish or mine, and prepare for Merrit's deliveries. Manual steps and CODE examples sit together, so you can try an idea first and automate it when you're ready.

Keep in touch from Hub

Open Hub to watch your characters and follow server chat. Private conversations stay together, and you can choose which of your characters to speak as—even one that's offline. You don't have to start its CODE just to answer a message.

There are full and compact chat views, and Hub is easier to find from the main page.

A few things to revisit

Keepsake Pendant, The Guestbook, and Saffron Loop shown at +2.

  • Anniversary visits now reward you with a 20-minute attack-speed and damage-output boost. There are still cake slices to trade, hats to find, and that very rare I Kiss You emote to chase.
  • Keepsake Pendant and The Guestbook can now be compounded. Those extra anniversary finds have somewhere to go. Saffron Loop also gains more Gold with each compound level.
  • Merrit's shop rules are clearer. When two stands are too close, the shop set up first keeps its place. Calling open_stand() again on an already open stand no longer restarts its settling time. Check her INFO guide if you're waiting for a Market Parcel.
  • Updated Steam clients include game images to cut down on downloads and remember your language. Windows, Linux, and macOS are supported.
  • A saved page-zoom setting and panel close controls give you more room to arrange the game the way you like.

Here for the programming?

Start with the working default CODE, change one thing, and watch what happens. You can run up to 4 characters, coordinate their jobs, build a trading routine, or look through the open-source client and server to see how it all works. ANYONE can CODE!

If you want AI help, MCP can give a compatible tool the game's guides, character data, and CODE context. Recent improvements let it look up several game-data entries together. Browser CODE controls work without Mainframe; optional Mainframe hosting is there if you'd like your CODE to keep running with your computer off.

And after the Fest?

A look at what's being worked on, from the game's UPCOMING cards.

The new UPCOMING cards give you a small look at what's being worked on:

  • Daily Adventures: a witch has secrets to share. Some will send you down new trails.
  • The Black Wake: trouble is gathering offshore. Keep an eye on the water.
  • Werdars' Level Awards: new gear to look forward to as you climb.
  • New Rare Drops: more finds like Sucker Punch. That next chest might give you a very different idea for your equipment.

These are still ahead. For now, there's a voice coming through a Goo, a square full of shops, and a party waiting for your next idea.

Come find us during Programming Fest. Bring your CODE—or your first question. See you in-game!
