We did it.

Folklands has officially left Early Access and 1.0 is available now!

Folklands started because the four of us wanted to make the kind of settlement builder we grew up playing. Something inspired by games like The Settlers, early Anno, Caesar and Pharaoh, where starting with a few Folks and slowly turning an empty piece of land into a functioning town is the fun part.

Early Access gave us the chance to build that game together with all of you, and with the release of 1.0, Folklands has become the game we wanted to make with you.

What's new in 1.0?

We have already taken you on a journey for the last few days, sharing more information about the 1.0 release, our story and how we got there. But if you haven't checked that out (or just forgotten about it), here's a quick summary of what we're adding in 1.0:

  • More settlement progression with increasingly demanding Folks, a deeper economy and more ways to grow your settlement.

  • New production chains and resources including Grapes, Sunflowers, Apples, Wine, Cider, Oil, Meat, Jewelry, Gold and Diamonds.

  • More reasons to explore and expand as resources are more spread across the map than before and raider camps keep you from going wherever you want, adding another challenge.

  • Global multiplayer trading gives each settlement more opportunities to specialize and work together. Trader or produce the items you want or need like never before.

  • Five victory conditions makes each game unique and lets you build towards new goals every time you play the game. And when playing with friends, it adds that final element of competition.

  • Steam Workshop support from day 1 lets you download and play with mods that alter and enhance the game. Our Modding guide lets modders get started immediately, and we can't wait to see what awesome new stuff you bring!

  • More game customization, quality-of-life improvements, and more - the list is so long it's hard to know where to start! We've touched up almost every screen in the game, added new dials, buttons and checkboxes that gives you a better overview of what's going on.

You can still play peacefully at your own pace, or turn on some extra challenges and see what happens.

Not the end

This 1.0 release is the culmination of all the ideas we had for the initial game, but we have so much more we want to add! And we really want to know what you think as you play the game. Use the "Send feedback" options in the game to tell us more, and don't hesitate to post on the discussion forums or join our Discord!

Thank you!

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who played during Early Access. You found bugs, gave us feedback, told us what you loved and didn't love, and most importantly: you built settlements much larger than we expected you to build, and regularly found ways to play the game that we hadn't ever considered when we put the game out there.

Whether you've been with us since the beginning, haven't played in a while, or are discovering Folklands for the first time:

Welcome to Folklands 1.0.

We hope you enjoy it!

FIGURE IT OUT.As your settlement gets larger, trying to produce absolutely everything yourself can start becoming a bit of a problem - maybe your map has plenty of Oil, but not much good land for Wine. Maybe your friend settled somewhere with exactly the opposite problem. With 1.0 we're adding a global market , which lets you buy and sell goods instead of having to build every production chain yourself. Our first project was a deckbuilder - starting off an idea one of the brother had for a movie. We worked on it on and off for around ten years - both digital and physical - before one of us finally asked a…
