Hello kiddos, As you may know from our previous two games, we are very interested in mixing genres to try to stay curious and engaged in our game development.
Almost two years ago, we got the idea to experiment with mechanics: how to control a golf ball through diegetic buttons for movement, and we felt like we had found a new mix that satiated our urge to try something less trodden and keep the weird spirit we like to develop. That's when Bye Bye Bonnie was born.
So what is this game?
The short answer is: you get inside a rolling skull and use the buttons inside to create a golf-like experience to move the ball around the world, through different biomes and challenges. All the buttons, levers, and pulleys need to be operated in sync to achieve your goal.
You can also get out of the skull to gather materials, get new tools, and improve the Bonnie (that’s what the skull is called). How do you play?
We really encourage you to play with someone else; you can play local or online, and it’s up to 4 players!! Working together and communicating is the way to go far.
You can also play solo, but it is quite hard, so maybe we (the devs) are the only ones able to beat the game this way.
Why is this game important to us?
- The gameplay is a mixture of game ideas that we like.
- Visually, it’s a bunch of old paintings mixed with a gritty, childlike undertone.
- In terms of sound design, we are aiming to have something that evokes mixed feelings - both hopeful and nostalgic.
- And the narrative depicts topics that we are not going to spoil here but are not often depicted in video games.
