v2026.823.2309 — Game audio transcription (beta), model storage manager

Playto can now hear your game as well as read it. This update adds game audio transcription as a paid beta, a storage manager for downloaded models, and more resilient downloads.

Game audio transcription (beta) — paid

  • Opt in per game — turn on Game audio on the pre-start screen (or Settings). Spoken lines are transcribed and show up in the Log's Audio tab with translations, alongside what Playto reads from the screen.
  • Replay and study — each line keeps a short audio clip you can replay, and words in the transcript can be tapped to look up and save.
  • Faster than early builds — lines now appear a few seconds after they are spoken.
  • Optional higher-accuracy voice model — an 874 MB model can be downloaded from the Game audio row when you want fewer missed lines. Nothing downloads without your click.

Known issues (audio beta)

Audio transcription is a beta and does not catch everything yet. Currently known:

  • Lines spoken over loud music can be missed.
  • Very short utterances (under about a second) can be dropped.
  • A saved clip can be longer than the spoken line.
  • Transcription takes a few seconds per line on the standard model.
  • Verified with Japanese and English voices; other languages are untested.

We are actively working on these. If you hit something else, use Contact us in the app.

Manage downloaded models

Settings → Engine now has a Storage section: see which models are installed, how much space they use, delete ones you no longer need, and clean up leftover files from interrupted downloads.

More resilient downloads

  • A download that stalls mid-transfer now retries through alternate servers automatically instead of failing on the same one.
  • If a download still fails, a contact link is shown right on the error — and if the report itself cannot reach us, you are pointed to the Steam community as a fallback.
  • For new users: if the model download struggles during setup, Playto offers a Playto Cloud trial so translation can start right away while the download continues.

Multiple profiles per game

When you have more than one profile for the same game, Playto now detects which profiles match the running game and offers the right one when you start.

Other fixes

  • The tutorial could fail to start in some cases — fixed.
  • Cloud error messages now show the actual cause instead of a generic connection error.
  • The engine row shows download progress while a model is still downloading.
  • Clearer tutorial text, and the first-steps checklist is easier to follow.

If something still feels off, tell us through Contact us in the app, Discord, or this Steam thread.
If Playto is part of your gaming, a short review helps other language learners find it — and we read every one.
