Genesis Devlog #23: The Treants join the fight

Hello, Generals!

It's Genesis Devlog Friday, and this week the forest itself is joining the fight. Meet the Ironbark Treant, a tower that is also a very grumpy tree.

If you played the original Kingdom Rush, you know the Rotten Forest: a dark, corrupted grove full of Tainted Treants that attacked anyone who came near. But it wasn't always like that. Long before the events of Kingdom Rush, that forest was alive and golden, home to entire families of treants who kept it safe for ages.

That's the forest Gerald finds when he travels back in time. But even in this era, something is wrong. A strange corruption has started to spread through the woods, twisting the trees one by one. Most treants have already fallen to it. The Ironbarks are among the last ones still fighting back, ancient guardians with bark hard as steel, watching their home slowly rot around them. And they are NOT happy about it.

So when the heroes pass through the grove later in the campaign and lend the treants a hand, these old guardians will gladly return the favor. Could the heroes change the forest's fate this time around? 👀

Now, how does an angry tree fight? The Ironbark Treant has two modes. While rooted, it works like an artillery tower, slamming the ground with its huge fists to crush every enemy nearby. Sounds familiar? Yes, much like the Weirdwood from Kingdom Rush Origins. But you can also uproot it and send it walking onto the path, where it blocks and fights enemies up close.

That's all for this week, Generals. Next Friday we'll be back with the third piece of lore in the series we've been sharing. Until then, remember to wishlist the game!

Onward!

It's Genesis Devlog Friday, and today we're opening a door we probably shouldn't. Veteran Generals will need half a second to recognize him: the towering red warrior, the burning blades, the name demon armies learned to say quietly.
