Hello, Generals!

It's Genesis Devlog Friday, and today we're opening a door we probably shouldn't. Veteran Generals will need half a second to recognize him: the towering red warrior, the burning blades, the name demon armies learned to say quietly. Yes, Oni is joining the ranks in Kingdom Rush Genesis!

That was the easy part of this devlog. The hard part is telling you where this mysterious figure came from, because nobody actually knows.

What the stories agree on is that he was an honorable warrior once, his katanas sworn to a kingdom, and that he was the best at what he did. Everything after that gets blurry, because it happened long enough ago that the kingdom itself no longer appears on any map worth trusting.

Then, they say, an army climbed up from the depths, for reasons now lost to history. What is remembered is his might: he held the line as long as any man could, as long as any human could, and still the armies of hell kept coming. Overwhelmed, he was left to watch the people he had sworn to protect fall one by one.

Some say that in his last breath, he condemned his own soul to obtain the power necessary to inhabit the Pit of Fire and hunt down demons for eternity, hell-bent on vengeance against the wicked forces that wronged him.

His obsession kept him down there for centuries. But when he heard those same demons speaking of a powerful wizard making a deal with their overlord Moloch, Oni knew that he would have to put his mission aside in order to prevent another kingdom from suffering the same fate as his own.

It was the only thing strong enough to pause his hunt and send him climbing up into Linirea, to fight for a kingdom that still had everything to lose and to make sure demonic forces never walk the surface again.

And that, dear Generals, is the story of how Oni came to Genesis... or so we heard. Are you excited to have him back? Rip and tear, until it is done.

Onward!

Most weeks you come here for news about the game. This week we're handing the devlog over to you instead, because fifteen years of Kingdom Rush is your milestone as much as ours. It's Genesis Devlog Friday, and today we're bringing back an old flame. If you played the original Kingdom Rush, you've met him already: the walking torch called Ignus, ready to burn enemies with the blaze of a thousand stars. But he wasn't always like this. Before the elemental, there was a wizard. Sort of. You see, Ignus never fit in with the other mages. While his peers in t…
