Client Update — typing fixed, properly this time

Two related bugs in the Steam client have been squashed in an update that's live now:

  • Text boxes dead on launch — no login typing, no chat, until you clicked another window and came back.
  • Text boxes dying mid-game — after walking around for a while, clicking into chat or the gold-transfer box showed a cursor that ignored your keys. Some of you were restarting the whole client. Never again.

Both had the same culprit: the way the Steam Overlay hooks into the client could quietly disconnect the keyboard from the page — once at launch, and again after enough scenery had gone by. The client now performs the focus handshake itself: at launch, whenever you return to the window, and the instant you click into any text field. You shouldn't be able to find a dead text box anymore — and if you somehow do, tell us in Discord, because we have one more (bigger) hammer ready.

The update downloads automatically the next time Steam starts the game. Your progress lives on the server — nothing else changes.

Thanks to everyone who reported this with exact steps. "It breaks after I walk around and then open chat" is the kind of sentence that gets a bug fixed the same day.

Typing was breaking — dead text boxes at launch, dead text boxes mid-session — and every version of it seemed to trace back to how the overlay hooks into the client's renderer. Given the choice between a working keyboard and Shift+Tab, we took the keyboard. That call was right at the time.
