One of the ideas that inspired Ghost Receipt from the very beginning was simple:
Every item tells a different story.
In most shop management games, items are little more than numbers. Buy low, sell high, and move on to the next transaction.
In Ghost Receipt, the item itself is often only the beginning.
A damaged neural implant, an encrypted data shard, a blood-stained communication device, or a piece of abandoned cyberware may look like just another object sitting on your counter. But where did it come from? Why was it pawned? And what happened to the person who owned it?
As the owner of a small grocery store and pawn shop in Neo Haven, you'll meet customers from every layer of the city. Factory workers trying to survive another week. Couriers carrying packages they were never supposed to open. Corporate employees hiding information they shouldn't possess.
Some deals are ordinary.
Others may pull you into something much bigger.
Many items can be examined, analyzed, and investigated.
Hidden clues may reveal connections between customers, factions, ongoing investigations, and events happening across the city.
The choices you make can influence relationships, reputation, future opportunities, and the information that becomes available to you.
Not every mystery has a clear answer.
Not every customer is telling the truth.
And sometimes the most profitable decision may also be the most dangerous.
Ghost Receipt combines shop management, pawn negotiations, investigations, and narrative-driven decision making inside a living cyberpunk city. The world reacts to news events, faction activity, shortages, rumors, and the choices you make throughout your playthrough.
This devlog is the first in a series where I will be taking a closer look at the systems that bring Neo Haven to life.
Thanks for following development.
And remember:
Every item has a story.
