Hello, everyone.
I’m Cho, CEO of POLYMORPH STUDIO.
I’m writing this Developer Note to share where IfSunSets is headed next and what our development team is currently focusing on the most.
Since entering Early Access in November 2024, IfSunSets has been on this journey for nearly two years.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has spent time playing the game and sharing countless reviews, suggestions, and feedback with us along the way.
Since the beginning of Early Access, our goal has never been simply to keep adding more content.
We have continued to expand, refine, and improve the entire game in order to bring IfSunSets closer to the experience we originally dreamed of creating.
New regions and dungeons, new bosses and monsters, countless weapons and equipment, and four-player co-op.
And with our biggest challenge of this year, the massive Ocean Update, we expanded the survival experience beyond the land—introducing shipbuilding, sailing, and underwater exploration as we continue building a world that spans both land and sea.
Many players told us that this update made IfSunSets feel like it had grown into something much bigger, and for us as developers, it marked an incredibly meaningful turning point as well.
Looking back at our original Early Access roadmap, a significant portion of the content we promised back then has now become part of the game.
Our development team is now fully focused on creating IfSunSets’ ending quest and the final battle against the Kraken.
The most important goal behind this final chapter is simple:
We want everything you have explored, built, learned, and prepared throughout your journey to have meaning when you finally reach the end.
The final battle against the Kraken is planned to be the largest-scale battle we have ever created, and the NPCs you rescued throughout your adventures in Luminora will also have meaningful roles to play in this final journey.
We are bringing together everything we have learned and everything we have built throughout the development of IfSunSets to make sure that
your long journey reaches a memorable and meaningful conclusion.
IfSunSets is currently targeting its Version 1.0 release by the end of 2026.
Our development going forward is not about abandoning what already exists and simply piling new content on top of it.
Instead, we are working to bring everything we have created together into one cohesive journey:
Exploration → Crafting & Progression → Base Building → The Night of the Dead → The Ocean & New Lands
We are refining the entire game so that each of these experiences flows naturally into the next.
Across the world, we are adding new stories, discoveries, and rewards to make exploration richer and more rewarding.
At the same time, we are carefully rebalancing the game as a whole—from shop prices, crafting materials, and the experience curve to items, skills, and monsters.
We are also strengthening the core identity of the Night of the Dead as a true test of your growth and preparation, where everything you have built and achieved throughout your journey is put to the test.
Right now, our biggest priority is bringing together the enormous amount of content we have created over the past two years and shaping it into one complete, cohesive game.
Alongside this work, we continue to improve the overall gameplay flow, quality of life, stability, and optimization as we push toward the level of polish we want for Version 1.0.
IfSunSets has never stopped evolving since the beginning of Early Access.
So far, our development team has released 71 hotfixes and 7 major updates.
Aside from roughly two months when we focused entirely on integrating the content for the massive Ocean Update,
there has not been a single period since the start of Early Access when development and updates have stopped.
Even now, we continue releasing weekly hotfixes and improvements as we move toward Version 1.0.
Throughout this process, your feedback through Steam Discussions, reviews, and bug reports—and your patience as we worked through fixes and improvements—has been an enormous help to us.
To show our appreciation to everyone who has been part of this Early Access journey,
we are also preparing a special reward exclusively for our Early Access players ahead of the official release.
We will share more details once everything is ready.
IfSunSets began as a project created by a small team.
Your Steam reviews, community posts, bug reports, gameplay videos, and suggestions have all played an important role in shaping the direction of the game.
We read not only the positive feedback, but also the criticism that points out where the game still falls short.
IfSunSets is not yet a finished game.
But our goal is to take everything we have learned from your feedback throughout Early Access and deliver a far more complete and polished experience with the official release.
Once again, thank you to every player who has stayed with us throughout this long development journey.
The sun is still setting.
And our journey to 1.0 continues.
Thank you.
Cho
