TOLL Is Out Now

You are Charon. The whole crossing is open.
TOLL is out now on Steam. All five rivers of the underworld, the tribute owed to Hades and a price on your own freedom — about three hours from the first coin to the last, and then it finishes.

  • Five rivers, five rules. The Styx is fast and cheap. The dead of the Acheron have weight. On the Lethe they forget they are dead and wander off the boat. The Phlegethon burns the hull. The Cocytus freezes it shut — and names your price.

  • 147 things nobody finished. The drowned mutter them over the side on the way across, and every one of them has a face. Some ask you to finish it for them. You can promise. You cannot actually do it.

  • The rivers talk back. Styx the Oath, Acheron the Woe, Lethe the Forgetting, Tisiphone the Avenger, Kokytos the Wailing — every few minutes one of them stops the crossing to ask about the life you had. Answer well and the river pays you better. Lethe forgets your answer and asks again.

  • Death comes to the pier to count what you have earned, and now and then to sell you a mercy: swift water, full purses, a crowded shore. Everything she offers has a price in crossings.

  • Set your own toll — merciful, fair or greedy. Chase omens, gamble on marked souls, and decide what to do with the one waiting on the far shore who wants to go back to the living.

  • Pay the tribute. Hades takes everything you earned and gives you shadows for it. Shadows buy relics that outlive the reset. He has an opinion about you, and it changes.

It ends. Most incrementals run forever, because forever is cheaper to build than an ending. TOLL has a last purchase, a last crossing and a last thing said to you. Start again if you want to. You don't have to.No ads, no microtransactions, no energy bar, no account and no server — the game is a file on your disk. 41 achievements, nine languages, Windows and Linux.Still deciding? The free demo is on the same page: the Styx and the Acheron, no time limit. The dead are waiting.
