Good morning fellow everyone,

I am cooking more than ever. So I have a huuuuuge update for you. Most importantly: Creative/Sandbox mode is now unlocked from the beginning!

And apart from that, I added tank tracks, nitro, lots of trees, and you can now help me create the ghosts for bonze, silver and gold by easily uploading your own runs with your cars, so I can include them as official runs for the game.

A quick TL;DR, and then comes the full send:

TL;DR

  • Creative/Sandbox mode is now unlocked from the beginning

  • I added tank tracks (still in beta)

  • Nitro is added to the game, can be attached to almost all combustion engines.

  • Added lots of trees to Rennpisteninsel, Pulo Pangripta and Offroad island

  • Wind resistance calculation improved

And now, the long read for you to enjoy:

Tank Tracks (BETA)

You heard right. I added tank tracks as alternative to wheels for moving on the ground and over difficult terrain. Use the tank track wheels, span either the rubber or metal tracks over them, and then roll away. Feel free to experiment around, and give me feedback on the physics. It's my first time implementing tank tracks :D

Nitro

I added two nitro bottles to the game. You can build them and connect them with pipes to most of the combustion engines. You can either connect multiple nitro bottles to one engine, you can use one bottle per engine or even power multiple engines with just one nitro bottle. This controls, if the nitro power stacks, or if the nitro bottle empties faster. Assign a keybinding to each bottle to control them individually.

But be carefull, if a nitro bottle breaks, it might explode...

To see how much nitro you have left you gotta build the nitro gauge to your car.

Green Initiative

We replanted a lot of the trees that got chopped during the big performance sweep a year ago. It provided good fuel to provide some fire wood for the winter, but now we managed to regrow a lot of the trees on the Rennpisten Insel, the Offroad island and on Pulo Pangripta. You can adjust the amount of rendered vegetation in the graphics settings if needed. I hope, this makes the game even more beautiful. Let me know if any trees landed on the streets, I'll chop them down.

Help Sapph drive the ghosts

Since a lot of races don't have ghosts for the bronze, silver and gold medals, you can now help me out if you want. You can build/pick any car you want, and then drive any race on any island. At the end you can upload the run for me, either for the bronze, silver or gold time.
After we have collected runs for every single challenge, I will import all one run for each challenge/medal combination and make those the official ghosts for the game!
To upload ghosts, you first must enable this in the general settings under "Submit runs for medal ghosts". Only then the button will appear in the race results screen.
To inspect all the ghosts that have been driven, visit https://enthusiastenwerk.com/ghost-uploads/index.php

And we already have 153 runs made and included in todays update. These are mostly the go karting challenges on the supersonic map driven my Xav.

But also some more by CyLus and CatBurger.

Wind tunnel 2.0

I updated the wind resistance calculation. There were a couple of issues with the old calculation method, where aerodynamic shapes didn't always result in less wind resistance. This should now be improved. The game now actually considers the real shape of parts, so the actual 3D geometry, and not just the occupied grid cells like before. You can still use the animation of wind stream particles in the buliding editor to find out, where the car produces the most wind resistance.

Improvements

  • Creative/Sandbox mode and map editor are unlocked from the beginning

  • You can now finally attach turbos to the CRM16H

  • When you duplicate a selection in the map editor, it now gets duplicated at the same spot and can be moved with the translate tool

  • Checkpoints can now also be moved and rotated after being placed

  • You can now insert checkpoints in between and let the game automatically re-order all checkpoints coming after that

  • The parts menu is now categorized in sub categories for hopefully better overview

  • You can now reset your savegame in the general settings (Won't delete cars)

Fixes

  • Alt+F4 should no longer crash the game while closing it.

  • Fixed the new deco parts not mirroring correctly.

  • Fixed coloring and texture stretching on the new deco parts.

Not many fixes in this huge update, so expect the number of bugs to go up rather than down. But you know Screw Drivers, it is powered by our beloved bugs.

Thanks for your continued support, I hope you have fun playing around with everything new!

Simon
